Richard Stern Obituary

Richard Edward Stern, often called Rick throughout his life, died of injuries sustained in his noble battle against cancer on the 31st of May in 2023. Born on July 14th, 1959, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to Raymond Stern and Delores Golden Stern, Richard grew up to become a devoted husband, a diligent provider, and above all else, a dedicated father.
Surrounded by siblings, Richard was a loyal brother to Raymond Stern, Jr., and Howard Stern, both of whom preceded him in death, as well as to the brothers and sisters left to mourn him: Patricia Callis, William Stern, Sandra Brown, Michael Stern, Janet Hort, and George Stern. He spent many years hopelessly in love with his late wife, Julianne Stern, with whom he raised his two children, Callien Stern and Richard Edward Stern II. He welcomed his son's wife, Britani Stern, into the family with open arms, wry jokes, and many home-cooked meals.

Richard served in the Navy shortly after high school, where his quick wit and obvious dependability made him a favorite amongst his fellow enlisteds. He then went on to receive a bachelor's degree before carving out his career at Michelin Tire Corporation as a troubleshooting engineer. When he wasn't working, he loved spending time with his kids, especially if it involved a camping trip. When he wasn't outdoors, Richard could often be found in the kitchen, whipping up fun experimental dishes that were often, though not always, well-received.
More than anything, Richard was a devoted family man who always put the needs of others before his own. He was a compassionate and loving husband and father, known for his kindness and generosity. Even after the passing of his beloved wife, Richard was a rock for his children, ceaselessly providing love and support throughout the years. While fighting against his terminal illness, he learned he was to be a grandfather. While in the final stages of a terminal illness is not the time anyone wants to hear of the future they are being denied, he was nothing but excited at heart to know of his grandchild's arrival, even if they were not destined to meet in person. As the Chicago lyrics go, "Only the beginning, only just the start." As we celebrate the life that was Richard Stern, he truly understood more than any of us that life is just a circle.

Richard's legacy of intelligence, compassion, empathy, and love live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege to truly know him. Rest in peace dear father, dear husband, dear friend, and may your brightness never dull as you make your way through the dark.
