July 10, 1936 ~ January 23, 2024 (age 87) 87 Years Old
Patricia Raye Bowman Hammonds, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2024, in Birmingham, Alabama, at the age of 87. Born on July 10, 1936, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Patricia's life was a melodious journey that began as the daughter of Raymond E. Bowman and Dorothy Knight Bowman.
Patricia's passion for music led her to Union University, where she graduated with a degree in Vocal Performance. In 1955, she married her high school sweetheart, Billy Hammonds, and together they embarked on a life of devotion and service. As a pastor's wife for over five decades, Patricia touched countless lives with her grace and wisdom. Her beautiful singing voice resonated not only in the church hallways but also in the hearts of those she taught as a Bible teacher and vocal coach.
The legacy of Patricia's loving and thoughtful nature is carried on by her loving family. She was a cherished mother to her daughter, Lisa Hammonds Hunt, and a guiding light to her seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who will miss her deeply. Patricia's spirit of kinship was shared with her sister, Sandra Bowman Burk, and her brother, Ray Bowman Jr., who stand as testaments to the close bonds she nurtured throughout her life.
Patricia's journey was not without its sorrows. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rev. Billy Frank Hammonds her son, Mark Hammonds, her grandson, Levi A. Hunt, and her sister, Judy Bowman Dickerson. Yet, even in loss, her unwavering faith remained a source of strength and comfort to those around her.
A woman of profound faith, Patricia lived a life exemplified by her commitment to her beliefs. Her dedication to her family, her church, and her community was evident in every action she took and every note she sang. Patricia's influence extended beyond the walls of her home and into the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Services to celebrate Patricia's life will be held at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, January 27, at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1-2 pm. Her life was a song of praise, a symphony of service, and a testament to a faith-filled existence. Patricia Raye Bowman's memory will be treasured forever as a loving, thoughtful, and faith-filled soul who lived her life in harmony with the values she held dear.
