Myra Mae (Battles) Breason

May 28, 1933 — March 17, 2024

Dothan

Myra Breason, a cherished matriarch and beacon of love, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2024, in her lifelong hometown of Rehobeth, Alabama. Born on May 28, 1933, to Sanford and Autumn Hughes Battles, Myra's vibrant spirit and compassionate nature left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she encountered.

A 1951 graduate of Rehobeth High School, Myra's zest for life and dedication to her community were evident from her youth. She spent a decade bringing joy to customers at JJ Newberry Department Store in Dothan before embarking on a culinary adventure at Food Services in Dothan. Though her professional life was fulfilling, Myra's true calling was her family, to whom she devoted her life after retiring.

Myra's love story with her beloved husband, William James "Bill" Breason, was one for the ages, spanning 67 years of mutual devotion and shared adventures. Together, they raised two daughters, Melissa (Michael) Bundy and Cindy (Danny) Sellers, who blessed them with grandchildren Whitney Bundy, Karlie (Corey) Mancilla, Jonathon Bundy Banks, and Brian (Tara) Sellers, and a great-granddaughter, Ruby Lucille Mancilla. Myra's legacy of love extends to several nieces and nephews, as well as great-nephews and great-nieces, who will carry her memory forward.

While family was the cornerstone of Myra's life, her creativity knew no bounds. She was the undisputed boss of the house, orchestrating daily life with a blend of grace and authority. A master seamstress, crafter, and gardener, Myra's hands were never idle, and her home was a testament to her artistic talents. Myra and Bill's handmade butterfly pins and magnets, which they generously gave to friends and strangers alike, are cherished keepsakes that symbolize their shared passion for spreading joy.

Travel was a shared interest for Myra and Bill, from their annual trips to New York to visit Bill's family to the countless journeys they embarked on together. Though she was a self-proclaimed homebody, Myra's adventurous spirit was coaxed out by Bill's gentle encouragement, leading to a lifetime of cherished memories. At home, Myra's culinary skills shone, especially when she made her renowned Brunswick stew, a family favorite.

Known for her impeccable sense of style, Myra took great pride in her appearance. Her collection of lipsticks was as varied as the colors of her vibrant garden, and her hair was always styled to perfection, a daily ritual that brought her great joy. Despite her love for the comforts of home, Myra never hesitated to hop in the car with Bill for a drive, trusting him implicitly as her steadfast chauffeur and companion.

Myra Breason's life was a testament to the virtues of love, creativity, and generosity. Her presence was a source of warmth and comfort, and her absence will be profoundly felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her. While she has left this earthly realm, her spirit continues to flutter like the delicate wings of the butterflies she so lovingly crafted, touching all of us with her enduring love. Myra was a faithful member of Piney Grove United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Even in her later years, she insisted on attending church services.

Myra is predeceased by her parents, Sanford and Autumn Hughes Battles; her sisters, Rochelle Jackson, Violet Hughes, and Eloise Johnston; and several brothers-in-law, a nephew, and her mother-in-law and father-in-law. Her radiant smile and kind heart will be forever missed, but the beautiful memories she created will continue to bloom in the gardens of our hearts for generations to come.
