John Stephen Hope, known affectionately as John, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2023, in Ozark, Alabama. Born in Vermont on February 27, 1949, John lived a life marked by courage, selflessness, and generosity.

John was a devoted family man. He was the beloved husband of Bonnie Hope for over 31 years, and a loving father to Gina McKnight, Sherry Woods (John), Wallace Jarvis, and Brandy Ammons (Mickey). John was also a cherished grandfather to Brandon McKnight, Dustin McKnight, Jance Jarvis, and Dylan Ammons, and a doting great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Eunice Hope, and his sister, Linda Hope. His love for his family was evident in the joy and pride he took in their accomplishments, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

John's dedication to service was a defining aspect of his life. He joined the Air Force in December of 1968 and served with distinction until his retirement in 1988. His service took him to South Asia and Germany, and he was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War. Following his military career, John used his skills as a trained aircraft mechanic to work at Fort Rucker. He later became a production supervisor for Army Fleet Support, a position he held until his retirement. John also held a Commercial Pilot's License, a testament to his love for aviation and his commitment to lifelong learning.

Beyond his work, John was a man of many interests. He was an excellent cook. John also loved to travel and sightsee. One of his favorite pastimes was driving Bonnie around, a simple pleasure that brought him immense joy. He was an answered prayer to his children. He loved their mother like no other and always enjoyed Bonnie's company.

John's life was a testament to the power of courage, selflessness, and generosity. He was a man who faced challenges with bravery, always putting the needs of others before his own. His generous spirit was evident in his willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need, and his kindness left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
