John Burks Obituary

John L. Burks, a lifelong resident of Alabama, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2023, in his home in Dothan. Born on March 23, 1958, to Ozzie Burks and Carrie Pruitt Burks, John was a pillar of his community and a beloved family man, known for his kindness, generosity, and ever-present love of life.

John spent over four decades working at Twitchell, where he made lifelong friends and left a lasting legacy. His work ethic was unparalleled, and his dedication to his craft was evident in all he did. Even after his retirement, John remained active, his energy and zest for life undiminished.

John was a man of many passions. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and was known to wear his favorite purple suit and fedora. He had a deep appreciation for western movies and often shared his love for the genre with his grandchildren. His favorite song, "Members Only," often played in his home, and he was known to hum along, lost in the music.

One of John's most cherished hobbies was drawing. His art was a reflection of his soul - vibrant, full of life, and deeply moving. But perhaps the most telling aspect of his character was his generosity. John was always ready to lend a helping hand, and his door was always open to anyone who needed to talk. His capacity for empathy and understanding was boundless, making him a peacekeeper in every sense of the word.

John had a particular fondness for his GMC vehicles, often seen cruising around town, a proud smile on his face. But nothing brought him more joy than his grandchildren, Treavon Blackmon, Kejuan Blackmon, Tierra Robinson, and Kiera Robinson. He cherished every moment spent with them, his love for them evident in his every action.

John is survived by his sons, Jonathan Robinson (Wynther King) and Robert Robinson, and his daughter, Jennifer Blackmon (Keith), and ex-wife, Mary Webster Burks. He also leaves behind his brothers, Otis, Lonnie, and Willie Burks, and his sisters, Madgeline Myhand, Ruby Burks, and Jeanette Anglin. He is preceded in death by his brother, Don Burks, and sisters, Fanny Burks and Marie Anglin. John also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss his laughter, his wisdom, and his kind heart.

John L. Burks was a loving father, a doting grandfather, a caring brother, and a loyal friend. His spirit, his laughter, and his love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His was a life well-lived, marked by kindness, generosity, and a deep love for his family. His memory will be cherished by all those he touched with his warmth and kindness.

As we say goodbye to John, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy will live on in his family and the community he loved so dearly. His life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and generosity, and he will forever be remembered as a beacon of light in our lives.
