Obituary

Geraldine Whitfield Moss, a spirited and faith-filled woman, was born on September 20, 1937, in Dothan, Alabama. She entered into eternal rest on September 4, 2023, in Miramar Beach, Florida following an extended illness. Known for her wisdom, spirited personality, and faith-filled life, she left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00pm Friday, September 15, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00pm prior to the service in the Chapel of Sunset Memorial Park.

Geraldine, fondly remembered as a woman with a golden heart, was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry Whitfield and Eula Bell Smith Whitfield, her sisters, Eudora Miley and Ella Mae Peterson, and her brothers, Harrison Whitfield and Henry Nelson Whitfield. She is survived by her loyal niece, Countess Saffold of Panama City, Florida, her sister, Johnnie Ruth Western of Muskegon, Michigan, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and other family members who will continue to uphold her legacy.

Geraldine's career began at Atlanta Life, the first Black Insurance Company of Dothan, where she served diligently as a secretary. Her dedication, meticulousness, and professionalism led her to the Houston County Sheriff's Department, where she retired as a secretary. Her contribution to both institutions was immense, and her work ethic, unmatched.

Geraldine was not only a hard worker but also a woman of many talents and interests. She had a voice that could light up a room, and her love for singing was infectious. Her culinary skills were legendary, especially her candies, cakes, and down-home southern cooking. She was also a fabulous seamstress, often seen creating beautiful pieces with her adept hands. Geraldine took great pleasure in dressing up, always looking her best and inspiring others to do the same.

In addition to her professional commitments, Geraldine was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dothan. Her faith was a guiding force in her life.

As one of six siblings, Geraldine understood the importance of family. She cherished her relationships with her siblings and extended family, creating bonds that would stand the test of time. Her Christian faith was a cornerstone of her life.

Geraldine Whitfield Moss, a treasured icon of strength, resilience, and faith, will forever be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her unyielding commitment to her work, and her undying devotion to her faith. As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate a life well-lived, a life that touched many, and a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.
