Deacon Willie James Gibbs, 79 years old, well known in the community as Daniel. He departed his earthly life journey on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, after a long illness in Headland, AL; in the home of Kimberly Reeves one of 3 caring daughters. He was also surrounded by many loving and devoted family members at the time of death.
A celebration of his life will be at 1 pm on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Headland, AL with Pastor Delvick McKay officiating. Burial will follow in Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm on Friday, December 2, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel.
He was born on November 19, 1943 to his loving parents, the late Mr. Hozie and Emma Lee Gibbs in Headland, AL. He graduated high school from formerly known Northside High School in Headland, AL. He worked as a supervisor in a Dothan fertilizer plant for many years. He loved spending time with his family, children and grandchildren, rose gardening, fishing and church for strength. He became a member of Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church early in life, where he also surrendered his life to Christ. He remained an active faithful deacon and choir member and a supportive auxiliary participant until his failing health.
He was preceded in death by one older brother, Elder Frank Williams; and two sisters, Annie Gordon and Ida Mae Gibbs.
He leaves to cherish and celebrate his memories three brothers, Willie C (Paulette) Atlanta, GA, Fenny Gibbs and Hozie Gibbs; and two sisters, Willie Dell Taylor and Shirly (Frank) of Dothan, AL.
In the final chapter of his life, he is survived by loving wife, Nina since their marriage in 1998. They resided in Newville, AL throughout their married life. This union brought two families together in love with children and grandchildren; children, Charlatta Brown, Dothan, AL, Kimberly Reeves, Headland, AL, Dana Kelly, Headland, AL, a God child, Wanda Floyd McKay; and he gained a step-daughter, Princess Martin; grandchildren, Clifton Frazer, Arlexia (McArthure) Newman, LaShauna (Brandon) Hutchins, Marcus Brown, Julius Gibbs, Shayla (Jawaun) Cobb, Tyler Brown, Alliyah Kelly, Jarvis Goodson and he gained three step-children, Aisha, Ali-Hekeem and Alameen Murphy from Capital Heights, MD; great-grandchildren, Jada Newman, Jadyn Hutchins, Jordyn Newman, Makenzie Neal, Julian Gibbs, Khloe Anderson, Myla Brown, Tyson Frazier; special friends, John Glover and Rayfield Jones; and a special nephew he helped raise, Adrain Gallaway, Sr.
