Sarah Nell Phillips

October 5, 1936 — March 6, 2026

Sarah Nell Phillips of Homosassa, Florida, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, was born in Cullman, Alabama on October 5, 1936 to Ozzie and Elizabeth Bennett. On March 6, 2026, Sarah passed away to be with her savior Jesus Christ.


She was preceded in death by her, husband, William Earl Phillips and son, Gaines Lee Phillips. Sarah was a loyal friend, devoted wife, loving mother, and wonderful grandmother who loved her beautiful yard and entertaining friends and family. When you entered the door of Sarah's home, you knew you were welcome and would experience lots of love, laughter, and friendship.


Sarah was also a devoted Catholic who was active in her church, St. Benedicts in Crystal River, Florida. She was survived by five children: William (Billy) Allen and Dyann Phillips of St. Augustine, Florida; Sarah and Len Clewett of Petawawa, Canada; Wendy and Scott Leftwich of Nashville, Tennessee; Jessica and Barry Tierce of Dothan, Alabama; and Kathleen and Kevin McCarthy of Memphis, Tennessee; eight grandchildren: Elizabeth and Jay Eichelberger of Atlanta, Georgia; Caroline Leftwich, Atlanta, Georgia; Bill Leftwich, Nashville, Tennessee; Lindsay Leftwich, Atlanta, Georgia; Kyle Clewett, Wuhan, China; Claire Smith, League City, Texas; Erica Clewett, Denver, Colorado; Billie' Phillips, Jacksonville, Florida; and six great-grandchildren: Tommy, Ben, Alex, and Jack Smith of League City, Texas and Jack and Lilly Eichelberger of Atlanta, Georgia. She is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, as well as many nieces and nephews.


Sarah was always a delight to be around and revered by all who knew and loved her. We will miss her deeply and we thank her for the love she gave us, the example she set, and the memories we will carry forever in our hearts.


A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 1:00pm in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Father Perkins officiating.
