July 12, 1945 — January 6, 2026

Sarah Emmaline Patrick, age 80, of Dothan, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. Born on July 12, 1945, in Dayton, Ohio, Sarah lived a life marked by faith, service, creativity, and a deep love for learning.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Robert Clyde Patrick and Alice Lucille Patrick.

Sarah is survived by her aunt, Thelma Ruth Rench; her cousin, Lawrence Anthony “Tony” Rench of Armuchee, Georgia; other cherished cousins; and a wide circle of dear friends formed through her lifelong career in education and her faithful involvement at First Baptist Church Dothan. She also leaves behind her devoted feline companion, Luna, who brought her much comfort and joy.

A passionate and highly respected educator, Sarah devoted all of her career to the field of mathematics education. She taught K–12 mathematics in Georgia and Alabama before joining the faculty at Troy University Dothan, where she taught 31 years. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mathematics Education from Georgia State University and remained deeply committed to professional excellence throughout her career. Sarah was an active member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Alabama Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics. In 2015, she retired from Troy University Dothan as a full professor, leaving behind a legacy of scholarship, mentorship, and lasting influence on countless students and fellow educators.

Beyond the classroom, Sarah was richly gifted in many creative pursuits. She sang faithfully in the choir at First Baptist Church Dothan and shared her musical talents as a clarinetist with the Community Band. She was also well known for her remarkable handiwork, lovingly creating beautiful crocheted afghans and quilts that became treasured gifts for family and friends.

A longtime and devoted member of First Baptist Church Dothan, Sarah’s faith was central to her life. She lived with quiet grace, generosity, and a servant’s heart, always offering encouragement, wisdom, and kindness to all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sarah’s memory to First Baptist Church Dothan, the First Baptist Church Mission Fund, the Wiregrass Humane Society, or a charity of one’s choice.
