Sandra Kay Griggs, a lifelong resident of Dale County, Alabama, passed away peacefully in Ozark on April 10, 2024. Born on October 14, 1952, to the late Shellie Joe and Nira Jean Griggs, Sandra's kind and friendly nature touched the lives of all who knew her. She was 71 years old.
Sandra, a graduate of Dale County High School, dedicated over 40 years of her life to her career as a dental assistant with Dr. Chesser in Ozark. Her commitment to her work and the well-being of the patients was evident in her gentle manner and warm smile, which brought comfort and reassurance to many. Sandra retired in 2017, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and compassion.
Never married, Sandra was a very private person, finding joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid reader and an enthusiast of crosswords, using them as a means to challenge her mind and unwind in her quiet moments. Her love for the mountains and the beach spoke of her appreciation for nature's beauty and serenity. Sandra will be remembered for her interesting conversations and the rich inner life she cultivated through her varied interests.
Sandra was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Shellie Joe and Nira Jean Griggs. She is survived by her siblings, Donna Grantham and Ricky Joe Griggs, as well as her cherished aunts and uncle, Delane Blackburn, Betty Cochran, June Smith, and Melba and Hal Cox and numerous cousins whom she loved dearly. Sandra held a special place in her heart for her niece and nephew, Cassadi (Bradley) Roper and their children, Ellorie, Amoson, and Lennon Roper, whose lives she enriched with her kindness and wisdom.
Her family and friends will celebrate Sandra's life at a service scheduled for 10:30 am on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. The service will be officiated by Rev. Barry Clark and Bill Ferguson, honoring the memory of a life well-lived. Relatives and friends are invited to gather for a time of visitation before the service from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Echo United Methodist Church, c/o Linda Ward, 12066 Highway 27, Newville, AL 36353.
Sandra's life was a testament to the power of quiet strength and the impact of a kind heart. She was a friend to many, always ready with a smile or a helping hand. Her presence was a source of comfort, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with her.
As we bid farewell to Sandra Kay Griggs, we do so with a sense of gratitude for the time we shared with her and the memories we carry forward. Her life may have been private, but the love and kindness she bestowed upon the world were far-reaching. May she rest in peace, and may her legacy continue to inspire us all.
