Robert Allen Sherman, affectionately known as Bob to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025, in Dothan, Alabama, at the age of 86. Born on August 19, 1938, in Port Townsend, Washington, Bob was a man whose warm presence and adventurous spirit left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him.
Bob’s dad, Chuck, moved his family from Port Townsend, Washington to Alaska to start a life of fishing. Bob's early years in Alaska were a testament to his love for adventure and the outdoors. His passion for fishing in the rugged Alaskan waters was only matched by his enthusiasm for sports, golfing and bowling being among his favorite pastimes. Bob's zest for life was infectious, and it was this very spirit that would define his many journeys, including his travels that took him to various corners of the world.
In the professional realm, Bob was a respected realtor in Palm Springs, California, during the 80s and 90s. His integrity, charisma, and genuine concern for his clients' best interests earned him a reputation as a trusted and successful businessman. However, Bob's deepest passion was for the open waters as an Alaska fisherman. He started fishing as a young boy and he loved everything about it. He only stopped fishing a few years ago but deeply missed it. Bob recently returned to his faith as a Jehovah’s Witness which brought him great joy and peace to his life.
Family became an important part of Bob's life. His immediate family is, sons, Steve Sherman, Mike Sherman (Robin) and Stewart Sherman (Charlotte), and his daughters, Laura McKinney (David Sr.) and Bobbi Jo Sherman, and his sister, Kay Francis (Roger). Bob also was a bonus dad to Theresa (Teri)Wittenborn (Shawn), Christine Adams, Roberta Steele (Rick), and Richard Swenson (Debbie). He has several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren as well. Many will cherish the memory of his contagious laugh and sense of humor.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Charles Calvin Sherman and Juanita Amber Trager, as well as his brothers, Dan and Skip Sherman; and his wife, Jean Sturlaugson-Sherman.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Bob will remember him as a man who lived life to the fullest. His loving, generous, and adventurous nature was evident in everything he did. Bob's legacy is one of joy, kindness, and the countless lives he touched with his caring soul. His laughter, stories, and the warmth of his company will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with this remarkable man.
As we bid farewell to Robert Allen Sherman, we reflect on a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a man well-loved. His memory will forever be a beacon of love and generosity for all who knew him. Bob's departure leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his spirit will continue to inspire us every day. Rest in peace, dear Bob, until we meet again.
