Rebecca "Becky" Hornsby

Aug 12, 1958 — Oct 21, 2026

Rebecca Hornsby, affectionately known as Becky, passed away on October 21, 2026, in Hartford, Alabama, at the age of 68. Born on August 12, 1958, in Geneva, Alabama, she lived a life marked by kindness, strength, honesty, and devotion to the people she loved.

Becky was a Christian woman whose faith was an important part of her life. She carried herself with a spirited personality and was known for being outspoken and honest, yet she had a soft heart and a deep tenderness for others. She was the kind of person who spoke her mind, stood her ground, and still made room for compassion, laughter, and love. Those who knew her best will remember her as a caring and devoted woman who loved her family dearly and gave of herself freely.

Becky graduated from Coffee Springs High School in 1976, and after school she worked hard throughout her life in a variety of jobs. She spent time in factory work, including being a folder at Van Heusen, working at a cigar factory in Dothan, and later doing textile work. In time, she found her calling as a private sitter, caring for elderly individuals in their homes. She took pride in helping others and provided comfort, companionship, and dependable care to those she served. Her work reflected the generous and nurturing spirit that defined her life.

Family was central to Becky’s heart. She was preceded in death by her parents, John F. Hornsby and Rever Harley Hornsby, as well as nine siblings. She is survived by her siblings, Marilyn Hadley and her husband Larry, Ruth Lindsey, Jacob Hornsby and his wife Ola, Ulondia Miller and her husband Jasper, Johnny Hornsby, Revonnia Hornsby, and LaFrances Craig and her husband Will. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved and adored, along with many cousins, friends, and extended family members who will cherish her memory always.

Becky was a wonderful cook whose soul food was loved and enjoyed by everyone fortunate enough to share a meal with her. Her kitchen was a place of comfort and care, and her cooking reflected the warmth of her personality. She enjoyed sports and had favorite teams and players she followed with enthusiasm, including LeBron James, the New York Yankees, and the Kansas City Chiefs. She also enjoyed fishing from time to time, though she was mostly a homebody who found joy in the comfort of home and family. One of her favorite memories was traveling with her sister to New York, a trip she treasured and remembered fondly.

Her life was one of simple joys, hard work, and deep love. Becky was kind and spirited, and she touched the lives of many with her presence, her humor, and her honest way of speaking. She had a way of making people feel seen and cared for, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Though she is no longer with us, the love she gave, the meals she shared, the care she provided, and the memories she created will remain a lasting comfort to her family and friends.
