Raymond Joseph Campbell

Raymond Joseph Campbell, known lovingly to many as Red Dog, passed away on July 24, 2026, in Dothan, Alabama, at the age of 55.

He was born on July 7, 1971, in Tampa, Florida, and was raised in Skipperville, Alabama, where he grew into a hardworking, spirited man whose presence left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He lived a life marked by dedication, humor, and a deep love for his family. Raymond was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and he carried those roles with pride and sincerity throughout his life.

Raymond was the beloved husband of Shalon Campbell and a proud father to Merilyn Campbell, Bryson Ziglar (Felicia), and Cyril Parker. He was a loving grandfather to Legend, TJ, Princeton, and Braylynn, and he treasured every moment spent with them. He also carried the memory of his deceased grandchild, Harper Crutchfield, in his heart. His family was central to his life, and he found great joy in being present, supportive, and dependable for those he loved.

He is also survived by his siblings Ronnie Campbell (Lisa), Bobby Campbell (Blanche), Matt Campbell (Kristina), Johnny Zito, Tammy Hafner, Charlotte Stevens, Robin Tilton (Tom), and a host of other family members and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his siblings Walter Campbell, Jada Campbell, Gordon Zito, and Ronald Zito, as well as his parents, Merilyn June Campbell and Robert Alto Campbell. Raymond’s family ties were strong, and he valued the bond he shared with each of them.

Raymond was known as a jack of all trades and a true handyman. He worked early in life for Mitis Muffler in PCB and later spent time with Cummings Signs. He also worked alongside his brothers doing lawn care, and he took pride in the many skills he developed over the years. He was especially gifted with cars and could work on bicycles as well, always finding a way to fix what needed attention. His hands were rarely still, and he was happiest when he had a project, a tool, or a task to complete.

He loved his tools and enjoyed lawn care and being outside. He liked to stay busy, and his work ethic reflected both his practical nature and his desire to help others. Raymond was the kind of man people could count on, whether they needed a repair, a helping hand, or simply someone willing to show up and give his best. He was supportive in all that he did, and his steady presence was appreciated by many.

Raymond was also a football star in his younger years and remained a die-hard War Eagle Auburn football fan throughout his life. He loved cheering on his team and sharing in the excitement of the game. Beyond sports, he was a goofy and loving man with a wonderful sense of humor. He had a gift for making people laugh and could brighten a room with his playful spirit and warm personality. Those who knew him will remember his kindness, his laughter, and the way he made others feel at ease.

His faith also became an important part of his life, and he fell in love with Church at the Crossing in Dothan. There he found fellowship, comfort, and a place that welcomed him. Raymond’s life was a reflection of love, loyalty, and quiet strength. He was a loving, handy, and funny man whose legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. Though he has left this earthly life, Raymond Joseph Campbell will be remembered for the love he gave, the work he did, the laughter he shared, and the many lives he touched. His memory will remain a blessing to all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A celebration of Raymond’s life will be held at 2pm on Thursday, July 30, 2026, in the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. The family will be receiving friends an hour prior to the service.
