Milton King, Jr., aka “Junebug”, affectionately known to many as a kind and friendly man, was born on July 24, 1945, in Ashford, Alabama, and departed this life on May 10, 2026, in Dothan, Alabama.
He lived a life marked by devotion to family, faith, hard work, and the simple joys of everyday living. Milton was a people person through and through, and he had a way of making others feel welcome and included. He was known for accepting everyone as his family, a reflection of the warmth, familiarity, and easy connection he extended to those around him. His straightforward nature, his sense of humor, and his honest way of speaking made him memorable to all who knew him.
Milton retired from CSX railroad after years of dedicated service, carrying with him the strong work ethic and dependability that defined his life. He also served faithfully as a Deacon of St. Paul Church in Ashford, where his presence was valued and his commitment to his faith was evident. Reading was among the things he enjoyed, along with driving around town, tinkering on cars, and collecting any and everything. He was widely known as the “junk man”, a nickname he wore with pride because it reflected both his resourcefulness and his love for finding value in what others might overlook. He was also a handy man who could fix, build, or improve just about anything he put his hands on.
Milton enjoyed WWE Wrestling and had a special appreciation for the excitement and entertainment it brought. More than anything, he loved his family deeply and found joy in being surrounded by the people he cherished. He was a talker in the best sense, always ready with a conversation, a story, or a word of encouragement. His presence brought comfort and laughter, and his kind spirit left a lasting impression on everyone blessed to know him.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Cathy Thomas King; his children, Royal Lee King (Catina), Josephine Thomas (Robert), Pamela King Hall (Nathaniel), Bulinka Williams (Shavon), and Cassandra King; his grandchildren, LaKeria King, Britney Brown, Jessica Barkley, Jamel Anglin, and Amber Johnson; his great-grandchildren, Khamari Frazier and Caleb Ware; his siblings, William King, Mandy Smith, Lue Sistrunk, Edward King, and Charles King; his special nephews, Detrick King, Londrell Pearson, and Billy Ray Streeter; his good friends, Lee Bryant and Matthew Rivers; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends who will forever hold his memory close.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton King, Sr. and Queen Esther King; his son, Milton King III; his great-grandchild, Aryanna Griffin; his brother, Kenny King; his sister, Diane King; and his son-in-law, Robert Thomas. Though these loved ones have gone before him, their memories remained a part of his life and the family story he helped shape.
Milton King Jr. will be remembered for his kindness, his friendly nature, his strong presence, and the many ways he touched the lives of others. His life was one of love, faith, hard work, and authenticity. He leaves behind a legacy of family devotion, community connection, and treasured memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Milton’s life will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 2pm in the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tyisha Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
