Milton Doggett, a cherished patriarch, devoted serviceman, and community stalwart, passed away on August 29, 2025, at the venerable age of 103 years and 5 months old. Born on March 30, 1922, Milton's journey through life was marked by dedication, resilience, and an unwavering love for his family and country.
Milton’s life was one of service and commitment. At the age of 16, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, a testament to his strong work ethic and desire to contribute to the nation’s recovery during difficult times. Soon after, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he honorably served for two decades, including valiant participation in World War II. Following his military career, Milton transitioned to civil service at Ft. Rucker, where he continued to serve until his retirement in 1998. His patriotism was further celebrated when he was honored with a trip to Washington, D.C., to visit the World War II Monuments on the Honor Flight—a memory he held close to his heart.
A man of faith and fellowship, Milton was an ordained deacon at Newton Baptist Church, where he shared his wisdom and guidance with the congregation. His Masonic affiliation further exemplified his commitment to brotherhood and community values.
Milton's love for his family was a beacon that guided his life. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Nell Doggett, for 69 beautiful years, and a loving father to his children, Robert (Joanie) Doggett, Kenneth (Debbie) Doggett, and Paula (Donny) Bynum. Though he faced the loss of his daughter-in-law, Nell Doggett, and grandson, Brandon Doggett, with great sorrow, he found joy and pride in his surviving grandchildren, Larson (Michael) Maggard, Erin (Chris) Powers, Brian Phelps, Dexter (Danielle) Doggett, Audrey (Jarod) Jones, Mason (Laura-Ashley) Bynum, and Elizabeth (Jody) Etress, as well as his treasured great-grandchildren, Catherine Pierce, John David Maggard, Natalie Powers, Emma Powers, Hannah Powers, Alanna Powers, Hallie Powers, Ansley Kate Smith, Dayton Doggett, Abel Jones, Deacon Jones, Tallie Jones, Bentleigh-Layne Bynum, Amelia-Clayre Bynum, Grady Etress, and Carrye Etress.
Milton's interests and personal life reflected his character. Protective and supportive, he was the family's cornerstone. His experiences during the Great Depression instilled in him a resourceful nature, and nothing was ever wasted under his watchful eye. He was a faithful Christian, living his faith through actions and integrity. An avid outdoorsman, Milton cherished his hunting Beagles and the quiet satisfaction of rabbit hunting. He also found solace in fishing around local ponds, a pastime that brought him peace and contentment.
Milton Doggett leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love, steadfast service, and an enduring commitment to faith and family. His memory will be held in the highest regard by all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. As we remember Milton, we celebrate a truly well-lived life and honor the imprints he left on the hearts of many.
