Steve was a proud graduate of Headland High School and carried with him the values of his hometown throughout his life. After high school, he worked alongside his father, Lester Key, Jr., on the family farm, where he learned the meaning of responsibility, perseverance, and dedication. Farming became an important part of his early life, and he spent those years working the land with crops such as cotton, peanuts, and corn. Those who knew him understood that he valued honest work and took pride in providing for his family through diligence and determination.
Later in life, Steve spent many years as a truck driver, a career that suited his dependable nature and strong work ethic. He retired after a long and faithful career on the road, having spent countless hours doing the kind of work that kept others moving forward. He was respected by those who knew him professionally for being steady, reliable, and committed to doing his job well. He loved Alabama football, NASCAR racing and enjoyed sports of all kinds. His interests reflected his outgoing personality and his ability to find happiness in everyday moments. He was the kind of man who made memories wherever he went, and those memories will remain treasured by his family and friends.
Steve is survived by his wife of 32 years, Ouida Key, who shared a lifelong bond of love and companionship with him since their marriage in 1994. He is also survived by his children, Justin Chad Baker (Lydia), and Megan Gray (Andrew). He was a proud grandfather to 4 grandchildren, Maya Baker, Jeremiah Baker, Charlotte Gray, and Cassidy Gray, who brought him great joy.
