Michael Thomas Hinshaw, a beacon of strength and generosity, passed away on August 27, 2024, in Dothan, Alabama, at the age of 66. Born on November 19, 1957, in Illinois, Michael was a man who lived a life marked by dedication, service, and an unwavering commitment to his values.

Michael, affectionately known by all as just "Michael," was a true embodiment of the American spirit. His formative years were spent in the close-knit community of Midland City, Alabama where he truly laid down his roots. A proud graduate of Dale County High School, Michael's thirst for knowledge and desire to excel led him to Troy University, where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in Business Administration and Accounting.

His academic achievements were just the beginning of a life characterized by service and leadership. Michael answered the call of duty and served his country with honor as a member of the United States Army, notably within the esteemed ranks of the 82nd Airborne Division. His bravery and commitment to his nation were reflections of his strong character.

Upon returning to civilian life, Michael continued to lead by example. His professional life was marked by the same integrity and dedication he displayed in uniform. He was a man who built relationships on the foundation of trust, and his word was as steadfast as the principles he lived by. He worked as a volunteer firefighter and paramedic in Midland City for 27 years where he set the first Emergency Evacuation Plans for South Dale County, Alabama. He also volunteered 5 years of his time doing special projects such as SEARCH and the Homeless Coalition serving Henry, Houston, Dale, Geneva, and Coffee counties. Michael also served as the Company President for J&J Industrial Maintenance and Senior Vice President at Jan’s Industrial Maintenance.

Michael's deep faith was a guiding force in his life and growing up into adulthood, he was an active and cherished member of the Midland City Methodist Church. His involvement in the church was not just a reflection of his faith but also of his unwavering dedication to his community.

Those who knew Michael were touched by his selflessness and generosity. He was the kind of person who would give you his last dollar if he believed it would help. His kindness was matched only by his strength and independence. He was a hardworking man who never shied away from a challenge and approached every obstacle with unwavering determination.

A man of many talents, Michael was also an exceptional cook, known for his great Southern cooking that would bring comfort and joy to any table. His culinary skills were just one of the many ways he expressed his love and care for those around him.

Michael's legacy is carried forward by his close friend, Vickie Alleman, who stood by his side as a partner and confidant. Together, they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and mutual respect. He is leaves behind his siblings, Kenneth Hinshaw, Dianne Hinshaw, Raymond “Bud” Hinshaw, and Terry Hinshaw; his nieces, Ashley Dakota Hinshaw and Lesley Hinshaw; nephews, Christopher A. Hinshaw and Kyle Hinshaw; special friends, Aunt Wilma, Justin Gilley, Chris Lee, Laura and Amber Rutherford, Treven Walters, and Ann Parker.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William Albert and Mary Frances Hinshaw; his grandparents, John “JR” Rhodes, Daisy Turner Rhodes, Walter Hinshaw, Mary Hoberg Hinshaw; his siblings, Mary Katherine Hinshaw and William Donnie Hinshaw.

As we say farewell to Michael Thomas Hinshaw, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and passion. Michaels’s memorial service will be held at 11am Friday, September 13, 2024, at Sunset Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. He was a man who made a difference in the lives of many, and his memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Michael's journey on this earth may have come to an end, but his spirit remains a guiding light for all who continue to walk the path of kindness, integrity, and service.
