Melissa Ann Duffy

Melissa Ann Duffy, age 66, of Dothan, Alabama, passed away on September 18, 2026, in Dothan, Alabama, after a life marked by strength, independence, and a spirited love for the people and places she held dear.

Born on September 10, 1960, in Oregon City, Oregon, Melissa carried the character of the Pacific Northwest with her throughout her life. She was a woman of great presence and unmistakable personality, known by those who loved her as a force of nature. She was wide open in her way of living, honest in her opinions, and never one to let anyone wonder what she thought. At the same time, she had a warm and welcoming spirit that made her memorable to everyone she met. She truly never met a stranger, and her outgoing nature allowed her to form connections easily and sincerely.

Melissa spent many years working as a loan originator until her retirement, and she approached her work with the same determination and attention to detail that she brought to every part of her life. She was proud of doing things the right way and expected the same level of care from herself that she gave to others. She had a strong sense of style and took great pride in always looking her best. She was known for being meticulous, orderly, and particular about her surroundings, and she was often described as a clean freak who liked everything just so. Her home, her appearance, and her life reflected her desire for things to be neat, polished, and well cared for.

Outside of work, Melissa found joy in the outdoors and had a deep love for the open air and the life that came with it. Raising and caring for horses was one of the great passions of her life, and she took that responsibility seriously and lovingly. Her connection to animals and to nature reflected her independent spirit and her appreciation for hard work, freedom, and beauty. She also enjoyed decorating and shopping, and she had a keen eye for making spaces feel attractive and comfortable. Whether she was arranging a room, selecting something special for herself, or simply making sure everything was in its proper place, she did so with confidence and style.

In 2022, Melissa moved to Dothan from Oregon, beginning a new chapter in her life while carrying with her the values, memories, and experiences that had shaped her along the way. Though she made her home in Alabama, her story remained deeply rooted in the places and people that had been part of her journey from the beginning. She adapted to change with the same strength and self-assurance that defined her entire life.

Melissa is survived by her son, Gabriel Myers; her daughter, Ariel Myers; her brothers, Brenton John Vedder and his wife, Denise, and Ronald Andrew Vedder; her sister, Karen Louise Vedder; two nieces; two nephews; and one great-niece. She also leaves behind her beloved canine companion, Libby, whom she adored and who was truly the apple of her eye. Melissa will be remembered by the many others who knew and loved her for her bold personality, candid nature, and unwavering sense of self.

Those who knew Melissa will remember her as someone who lived life on her own terms. She was independent, outspoken, and full of personality, yet she also had a genuine warmth that drew people to her. Her family and friends will remember her love of horses, her eye for detail, her pride in looking polished and put together, and her ability to make an impression wherever she went. Her life was one of strength, individuality, and devotion to the things and people that mattered most to her.
