Mavis Richardson Jenkins, who celebrated her 100th birthday this past April, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 20, 2022 in her room at Grand South Senior Living here in Dothan.
A celebration of her life will be held at 3 pm on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Allie Freeman officiating. She will be laid to rest in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-3 pm.
She grew up in Ariton and after marrying her handsome Air Force husband Frank in 1946, traveled the country and world before he retired in Dothan in 1963. Her daughters and her sons-in-law remember her as a remarkable lady and wonderful mother. Mavis worked during WWII as a flight instrument instructor and after her marriage devoted herself to her family. She was a very kind and determined woman who had a great will to carry on as best she could. Her presence on this earth will be missed by a great many people.
Mavis is predeceased by her husband, seven brothers and one sister.
Mavis is survived by her two daughters, Teresa Herring who lives in Duluth, Ga. and Rebecca Fuller who lives in Brownfield, Maine. She has one grandson in North Carolina, a granddaughter-in-law in Jefferson, Ga. and three great-granddaughters. She also has one sister-in-law who lives in Ariton and many nieces and nephews in Ariton, Atlanta, Houston, Pensacola, and Tryon, NC.
