Marion Baxter

Marion Baxter was born on March 19th, 1939, in Dothan, Alabama to LJ and Ileen Baxter. He comfortably and peacefully went to sleep in death on Tuesday August 11, 2026, in Huron, South Dakota.

He is preceded in death by his father, L.J Baxter, his mother, Ileen Baxter, his brothers, Henry Baxter, Felix Baxter and Freddie Baxter, his brothers-in-laws: Henry “Hank” Williams Jr., Herbert Stewart, David Danzie, his son-n-laws Harold Boyd, Latroy Roberts, Reginald Roberson, his daughter Myra Roberson, his first wife Edna Joyce Baxter, and his father-n-law Ezekiel Nathan Sr.

Marion is survived by his caring and loving wife Christann Baxter, his children Lisa (Herman) Davis, Wonda Boyd, Patrica (Ramon) Brown, Krista Roberts, Mikaela (Raymond) Bryant, Michael (Tijaya)Thomas. Sisters: Claudia Williams, Clara Stewart and Elizabeth Danzie. Sister-n-laws: Eloise Baxter, Carolyn Baxter, and Grace Baxter.

Grandchildren: Joseph, Shaniece, Myetta (Reginald), Regina (David), Cemijai, KrisAmber, KamRon, Rae’yan, Amara, Michael Jr.

Great grandchildren: Ben, Harvey and Zhuri and a Great-great grandchild: Tailynn

Nieces and nephews: Jacqueline, Felix Jr., Steven, Kenneth, Phillip, Pamela, Tammy, Carol, Brenda, Rosiland, David Jr., Michael, Yul, and Karen. A host of other nieces and nephews. He also leaves his mother-n-law Rosie Lee Nathan, Brothers and Sisters-n-laws: Ezekiel Nathan Jr (Kathleen), Earnest Nathan (Sarah), Rose Marie Washington (James), Linda Faye Nathan, Edward Louis Nathan (Laura), and Daisy Paulene Nathan Smith.

He has several spiritual sons and daughters that he adopted over the years: David & Debbie Brown family, Antonio Muhammad, Zanders family, Kelly family, Pierre Ford, Schroeder family, Samantha Richardson, Adan and Mayra Soto.

So many of you are our extended family and you know who you are like: Crew family, Wanda Hall, Jacqueline Brown, Terrell & Loretta Lee family, Bishop family, Moore family, Valley-Ishler family, Littleton family, Martin family, Lowe family, James family and many many more friends: Dothan West Congregation, Ozark Congregation, Alabama Zoom Field service ministry group, and our recent friends in Huron, SD English, & Spanish congregations and the S’gaw Karen Group and the RBC/LDC Family.

Marion graduated from George Washington Carver High School in Dothan, Alabama in 1957. He also attended night classes and earned a degree in Masonry. He eventually ran his own Brick laying and Concrete finishing, construction business.

He dedicated his life to Jehovah God and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on November 6, 1960, at Beaver Creek in Dothan, Alabama. He served as an elder for many years in the Ozark and Dothan West congregations and for a short time in Huron, SD. In 2019 he began to serve as a regular pioneer falling asleep in death. Marion loved participating in the preaching ministry and teaching the bible to whomever listened. He assisted many Spanish families that relocated to the Ozark, Al congregation to continue their spiritual journey as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He served where the “Need is Greater” in the Auburn - Opelika Alabama area.

Marion loved volunteering with the Kingdom Hall Quick Build also known as the 2-Day Kingdom Hall Build. He continued to Volunteer with the RBC for many years. (Now known as LDC) His first volunteer assignment was to spearhead the building of one of the first non-segregated Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Dothan, Alabama. Throughout the years he assisted in building and renovating many other Kingdom Halls, Bethel facilities in NY and volunteered with the Disaster Relief Committee. (He fondly reminisced about his time volunteering in Puerto Rico with the Disaster Relief Committee) He willingly devoted his time and patience to train his spiritual brothers and sisters to lay bricks and pour concrete for the RBC.

Marion married Christann on October 2nd, 2010. They loved and cherished each other for almost 16 years. They enjoyed being together and went everywhere together. He enjoyed traveling, taking his family on fishing trips, dancing & listening to music. Just being with his family and friends and making everyone laugh and have a fun time.

He loved his family, especially his daughters and grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marion and Chris had the opportunity to share his last couple of years together in South Dakota under the care of Raymond, Mika and Rae’yan Bryant.

Marion loved worshiping Jehovah with his family. He would make sure he took his family and parents to the conventions of Jehovah’s witnesses every year. He would always make you laugh with some of his funny expressions like: “I am happy as a Fat Rat in a Cheese Factory” There was never a dull moment with Marion. He loved to have a fun time and he “never met a stranger.” He had friends wherever he went and everyone knew him. (The Brick Man)

Marion has finished his race and waiting to see you soon in the new world in “Paradise”
