Maria Delores (Arboleda) Currie

November 3, 1939 — September 27, 2023

Dothan

Maria Delores Currie, a gentle, strong willing, selfless, and loving woman, was born on November 3, 1939, in Medellin, Colombia to Antonio and Maria Arboleda, and passed away on September 27, 2023, in Dothan, Alabama, after a long illness. Known for her unwavering kindness and dedication, Maria's life was a testament to the power of love and the strength of family.

Maria was born into a large, bustling family of eighteen brothers and sisters in Colombia. Her early life was filled with the joy and camaraderie that comes from being part of such a big family. She decided to visit the Panama Canal, where she met and married the love of her life, Robert Lee Currie, who sadly preceded her in death.

After moving to Dothan in 1985, Maria quickly became a part of her community. She was deeply involved with Catholic Social Services, offering her time and energy to help those in need. Her work was a reflection of her deeply held belief in the power of compassion and the importance of service to others.

Despite her community involvement, Maria's primary role was that of a homemaker. She was a devoted wife and mother, always putting the needs of her family first. Her sons, Lee (Daphne) Currie and Eddie (Lisa) Currie, were her pride and joy. She also had a special place in her heart for her stepdaughter, Jenney Hill (John), and her stepson, Tommy Currie, who sadly passed away before her.

Maria's love for her family extended to her grandchildren, Fuller Currie (Kate), Mallory Currie, Emily Currie, and Katherine Currie. She was a doting grandmother, always ready with a warm hug or a comforting word. Her grandchildren were a source of immense joy for her, and she cherished every moment she spent with them.

Despite her extended illness, Maria remained strong and resilient. Even in her last moments, her thoughts were of her family, and she continued to care for them in any way she could. Her strength and selflessness were a beacon for her loved ones, inspiring them to face their own challenges with courage and grace.

Maria was selfless in her love for her family, always putting their needs before her own. Her loving nature was a source of comfort and strength for her loved ones, and her memory will continue to inspire them in the years to come.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 29, 2023, at Saint Columba Catholic Church with Father Patrick Gallagher officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:00 prior to the services.
