Marcia Redd Palmer

Mar 17, 1939 — Jul 7, 2026

Marcia Ann Redd Palmer, age 87, of Blountstown, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on July 7, 2026, after a long life filled with love, endurance, and loyalty to her family.

She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose life was marked by strength, tenderness, faith, and devotion to the people she loved. She faced many seasons in her life with courage and perseverance, and even in difficult days, her family remained the center of her heart.

Prior to doing business as Nana—the title she most treasured—Marcia Ann Redd was born on March 17, 1939, in Blountstown, Florida, to the late John Redd and Ida Margaret Harrison (née Johnson, formerly Redd). As a consequence of living in the South—where double names are required—Marcia Ann proudly answered to the spoken-never-spelt one-and-a-half syllabled diminutive: “Mars-ann.”

In Marcia Ann, a southern belle was seeded, and as years passed, a southern lady flourished.

Whether Marcia Ann, “Mother,” or most affectionally “Nana,” she was the kind of woman who left an imprint not only on the big moments, but also the ordinary ones—in the stories she told, the love she gave, the lipstick she applied, the stores she shopped, the worries she carried for those she loved, and the strength she showed even when life was not easy. She lived through hard seasons with a determined spirit, and she loved her family with a mother’s heart that never stopped reaching for them.

To her family, she was more than a mother and grandmother. She was a witness to God’s sustaining grace. In her final days, she spoke with clarity and peace about Heaven, about seeing those who had gone before her, and about being ready to meet Jesus. Her family will forever treasure those sacred conversations as a gift.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Ken) Hammitte of Trussville, AL; her grandchildren, Hannah Hammitte (Mitch) Surface of Trussville, AL; Samuel (Patton) Hammitte of Huntsville, AL; Sarah Hammitte (Zac) Venos of Trussville, AL; her great-grandchildren, Margaret Louise and Mary Boyd Surface, and Samson, Harry, and Susan May Hammitte; her brother, Johnny (Sherry) Redd of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; her nephews, George Redd of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and John (Gina) Redd of Sanford, Florida; her great-nephew, Tommy (Ashley; T and Mya) Redd of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; great-nieces, Stella and Layla Redd; and many other family members and friends who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents and other loved ones who welcomed her home.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, in Dothan, Alabama. Her family invites you to join them in honoring the life of their beloved “Nana” for a come-and-go gathering at Sunset Memorial Chapel, located at 1700 Barrington Road, Dothan, Alabama, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, in Blountstown, Florida. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, located at 20300 NE Macedonia Road, Blountstown, Florida. A celebration of her life will begin at 11:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved mother and father at Nettle Ridge Cemetery in Blountstown, Florida.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the nurses who provided exceptional care and compassion, and comfort during Nana’s final days. A special thank you Emily, Ben, Bailey, and Joi for the kindness and support they showed during this difficult time.

Her family grieves deeply, but not without hope. They give thanks for her life, for the love she gave, and for the promise that this goodbye is not forever.

To a southern woman as delicate as magnolias, but as tough as steel. We love you from the other side.

Flowers are being accepted through The Sparrow’s Nest, 17844 US-431, Headland, AL 36345, or call at 334-693-3791. In honor of her life and her journey with Parkinson’s disease, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Parkinson’s research in her memory. It is their prayer—and Nana’s desire—that these gifts will help bring hope, healing, and better days to others facing this disease. https://secure.The Parkinson's Foundation/site/TR/Tributes/General?pg=personal&px=3321598&fr_id=5906
