Louis (Lou) Edwin Boothe, age 86, of Dothan, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, was peacefully called home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Tuesday evening August 19, 2025, at his residence.
Louis was born in Boothton, AL, a coal mining community in Shelby County, where he spent his early years near the Cahaba River. In 1953, his family moved to Dothan. Shortly after, Louis accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized at Headland Ave Baptist Church. His family later moved to Napier Field, where he graduated from Midland City High School in 1958. He continued his education at Troy State University. Louis was a kind, loving, humble man, with a humorous side that few realized. He loved his family dearly and was a good, loyal friend to many. He was a faithful member of Curtis Memorial United Methodist church for many years and Ridgecrest Baptist Church since the 80’s, where he taught Sunday school with wife Becky until his health declined. Louis worked for the U.S. Government at Fort Rucker, AL for 35 years, eventually becoming the manager of the Directorate of Information Management, which is responsible for managing the installation’s information technology resources. This involved overseeing technology that supported Fort Rucker’s information requirements and the personnel and equipment that managed it. His hobbies included being an Alabama Crimson Tide fan, watching movies, reading, and keeping up with technology. He would spend many hours on his computer in his later years until Alzheimer’s took that joy from him.
Louis was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Boothe Grubbs, brothers Roy and James Grubbs, sister Joan Harris, sister-in-law Jeannie Hardy McDaniel (Gilbert), sister-in-law Ailene Hardy Anderson (Gene), brother-in-law Earl Hardy (Rosemary), nephew Gordy Hardy, and niece Shirley Andrews.
Louis is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Sarah Rebecca (Becky) Hardy Boothe, son, Louis Edwin (Eddie) Boothe Jr. of Eufaula AL, granddaughter Carmen (Josh) Chapman of Trussville AL and grandson Casey (Kaitlyn) Boothe of Kalispell MT, great grandchildren Jackson Chapman and Adeline Boothe, brother Robert Grubbs of Dothan, sister-in-law Judy Grubbs of Ormond Beach, FL, nephews Don Anderson of Austin TX, Lewron (Kathy) McDaniel of Decatur GA, Craig (Susan) Cole of Grantville GA, Chris (Alice) Cole of Winchester CA, nieces Cyntha (Bobby) Harrell of Ormond Beach FL, Michelle (Jason ) Cantrell of Newton, Allyson (Chad) Mims of Dothan, April (Jeff) Perez of Leesburg GA, great niece, Amy McDaniel of Decatur GA, and great nephew Phillip McDaniel of Decatur GA.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Tim Willis and Danny Mallory officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. to share memories and honor the legacy of a man who will be deeply missed. A private family graveside service will be held at Beulah Baptist cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff of Gentiva hospice and all of our precious family, friends, neighbors, and sitters for their love and support over the years and especially over the last few months.
