Joyce L (Bryant) Green

June 29, 1947 — December 4, 2023

Midland City

Joyce Green, a cherished soul known for her loving kindness and generous spirit, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2023, in Dothan, Alabama. Born on June 29, 1947, in Marietta, Georgia, Joyce spent her early years enveloped in the warmth of a close-knit family and community that shaped her into the remarkable woman she became.

Joyce, the daughter of the late James T. Bryant and Corine H. Deavers, grew up alongside her sisters, Doris A. Campbell (John) and Carolyn B. Norrell (Charles), weaving a tapestry of memories that would last a lifetime. Her family circle expanded when she married the late, Richard Green, the love of her life, and together they nurtured a family that became her pride and joy. Joyce's nurturing spirit continued to flourish as she became "Grammy" to her adored grandchildren, Lauren Murphree, Matthew Murphree (Kimberly), Mary Olivia Christenson, and Cooper Christenson.

Joyce's legacy is carried on by her devoted daughters, Tammy L. Murphree (Chris) and Robyn Susanne Christenson, who reflect her nurturing nature and loving heart. Her family extended to include a sister-in-law, Susan Hebert, and brothers-in-law, David Green and Edward Green, along with many loving nieces and nephews, all of whom she cherished deeply.

A graduate of Sprayberry High School, Joyce's dedication and punctuality became hallmarks of her professional life as a bank teller at Cotton States Credit Union. Her work was not just a job but a means to connect with her community and serve others with her ever-present smile and helpful demeanor.

Joyce's interests were a mirror of her life—filled with warmth, love, and the joy of simple pleasures. She was a culinary enthusiast who loved to cook, sharing her dishes with friends and family, creating moments of togetherness around the dinner table. Joyce's love for her children and grandchildren was paramount, and she embraced her role as "Grammy" with every ounce of her being.

After moving from Marietta, Georgia, to Dothan, Alabama, in 2016, Joyce continued to nurture her faith as a devoted member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church in Marietta, where she cherished her Sunday school class. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and comforting her through life's trials and tribulations. A fan of the simple joys in life, Joyce relished in shopping sprees, baking, and cooking. Her enthusiasm for college football and the Atlanta Braves was infectious, bringing excitement and camaraderie to any gathering. Joyce's punctuality was legendary—a reflection of her respect for others and the value she placed on time spent with loved ones.

The words that best describe Joyce—loving, kind, and generous—only begin to capture the essence of a woman whose presence was a gift to all who knew her. Her warmth and generosity extended beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of everyone she met with a gentle grace that will be profoundly missed. Joyce's life was a beautiful testament to the power of love and the strength of family bonds. Her spirit, characterized by compassion and selflessness, will continue to resonate in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Let us remember Joyce Green not by the finality of her departure but by the enduring love and light she brought into this world. Her memory will be cherished, her legacy celebrated, and her life honored by all those who were fortunate enough to know her.
