Johnny Darrell Harris, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on September 3, 2025, in Dothan, Alabama. Born on April 23, 1956, in Bay Springs, Alabama, Johnny's life was a testament to his generous spirit and unwavering commitment to his loved ones.
Johnny was predeceased by his parents, J.D. Harris and Rosa Bell Jordan Harris, and his siblings Carolyn Harris Powe, Cora Bell Harris Vickers, Patricia Ann Harris, and Charles Randall Harris. He leaves behind a lot of nieces, nephew and cousins and a legacy of love and dedication in his wife, Alice Harris, his children, Jimmy McCray and Tennile McCray, and his adored grandchildren, Davion, Shania, Jordan, Pete, and Jasmine. His presence will also be greatly missed by his surviving siblings, Herbert Ray Harris, Willie Mae Harris Powe, Bobbie Jean Harris Finch, Girle Lee Harris Shivers, Jerry Jean Harris, and Jane Priscilla Harris.
For two decades, Johnny was a loyal employee at Golden Peanut in Headland, where he was respected for his strong work ethic and his willingness to lend a hand whenever needed. His colleagues knew him as a man of integrity and kindness, traits that extended far beyond the workplace.
Johnny was a funny and joyful man, always bringing laughter to those around him. He had a great sense of humor and loved to sing the theme songs from The Beverly Hillbillies and Popeye the Sailor Man, which became part of his playful charm. Known as a "good guy" by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, Johnny was the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. His selfless nature was the cornerstone of his character, and it was reflected in every area of his life.
A celebration of Johnny’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, September 8, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
