John Paul Scarborough, age 77, of Dothan, Alabama, passed away on August 12, 2026. He was born on October 11, 1948, in Hartford, Alabama, to the late Paul Funston Scarborough and Willie Dell Scarborough.


John Paul was a hardworking man who spent much of his life working in the dry-cleaning business and as a truck driver. He took pride in working hard and providing for his family. Those who knew him could count on him to be dependable, honest, and willing to lend a hand whenever he could.


More than anything, John Paul loved his family. He was proud of his children and enjoyed watching his family grow. He is survived by his sons, Jeff Scarborough, Allen Scarborough, Paul Scarborough (Libby), and Josh Scarborough (Leona). He was a proud grandfather to Will Scarborough, Griffin Scarborough, Tyler Scarborough, Courtney Wilkins, Ne'Vaeh Scarborough, Ny'Ryan Scarborough, Leah Scarborough, Olivia Scarborough, Jamie Daniel, and Lyric Daniel.


John Paul is also survived by his brothers, Truman Scarborough (Elaine) and Terry Scarborough; his half-sister, Elsie Phillips and her husband, Bill; and numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish the memories they shared with him. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Scarborough.


John Paul loved Jesus, and his faith was an important part of his life. He found joy in the simple things and especially enjoyed hunting, telling jokes, and sitting around sharing stories. John Paul had a great sense of humor and could usually be counted on to have a story or a joke ready. He enjoyed talking with people and had a way of making those around him feel comfortable and welcome.


John Paul will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a man who worked hard, loved his family, enjoyed a good laugh, and never seemed to run out of stories to tell. The memories he made with his family and friends will be treasured for years to come.


Though his passing leaves a great sadness for those who loved him, they can find comfort in knowing that John Paul is now at peace and with the Savior he loved. His memory will live on through his children, grandchildren, family, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
