John B. Ellis passed away on January 16, 2024, in Alexander City, Al. Born on August 8, 1935, in Kansas City, MO., to the late John W. and Barbara Ellis.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Lori Ann Ellis. His sisters Mary Hodge, Donna Baker, and Marjorie Fulton, his late daughter, Dawnette Ellis and late granddaughter Rachel Nighswonger.
He is survived by his daughters Kathy Nighswonger, Tammy Ellis, and Carrie Blankenship (Scott). His grandchildren Danielle Ellis, Michael Hardwick, Mary Hannah Hardwick, and Bryan Nighswonger.
He had a long career, which included serving in the Air Force and the Army. He served two tours in Vietnam and retired as a CW4 and a decorated helicopter pilot. Eventually he and his family returned to the Dothan area. He continued his career as a helicopter instructor pilot until his retirement.
He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Which will be his final resting place, he will be interred with his late wife Lori.
We would like to invite you to honor his memory. He will have full military honors at Sunset Memorial Park on January 22, 2024, at 1:00pm. Followed by a graveside service at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Pastor Paul Edenfield officiating.
