Jeanette Chapman Newton

April 7, 1934 — May 14, 2020

Jeanette Chapman Newton, a beacon of love and strength, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2020, in Lexington, SC, at the age of 86. Born on April 7, 1934, in Ariton, AL, Jeanette's early years were spent in Midland City, AL, where she grew up learning the values of family and community that would guide her throughout her life.

Jeanette's journey led her to Bainbridge, GA, where she met and married the love of her life, the late Billy Charles Newton. The couple shared a deep and enduring love, one that was the cornerstone of their family. While Billy served in the US Navy, Jeanette dedicated herself to caring for their home and family, creating a warm and nurturing environment for their son Billy Newton and late daughter Cynthia Hubbert. Jeanette's resilience and independence were further exemplified during her husband's deployments, as she remained the steadfast anchor of their home.

Her sister, Evelyn Green, fondly remembers Jeanette's unwavering support and the special bond they shared as siblings. Jeanette's love extended beyond her immediate family, touching all those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Professionally, Jeanette was a highly skilled transcriptionist at Ft Rucker, where she worked until her retirement. Her colleagues admired her for her dedication and the meticulous care she put into her work. Jeanette's professional achievements, however, were always secondary to her commitment to her family, whom she placed at the center of her world.

Jeanette's interests and hobbies reflected her adventurous spirit and her willingness to embrace new challenges. She was a creative soul, engaging in pottery and painting homes and landscapes that captured her imagination. Her artistic endeavors were more than just pastimes; they were expressions of her zest for life and her desire to capture the beauty she saw in the world.

Those who knew Jeanette would describe her as loving and strong-willed. She was always there for her family, offering a helping hand or a listening ear without judgment. Her strength of character was evident in the way she approached life's challenges with grace and determination.

Jeanette Chapman Newton's legacy is one of love, resilience, and the joy she found in life's simple pleasures. She will be deeply missed by all who were touched by her kindness and her unwavering spirit. As we say goodbye to Jeanette, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of moments that will be cherished and remembered by her family, friends, and all who were privileged to cross her path. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us, just as her presence once did. Jeanette's life story is a testament to the power of love and the strength of the human spirit.
