James “Scotty” Yeomans, passed away on May 8, 2026, in Dothan, Alabama, at the age of 59.
Born on January 6, 1967 in Dothan, Alabama, Scotty lived a life marked by devotion, resilience, and a steady willingness to help others. He was a kind man who was all about family, and those who knew him best will remember him as handy, loving, and intelligent. He had a natural gift for fixing what was broken, whether it was something mechanical, something practical around the home, or simply a problem that needed a patient and dependable hand. He was the kind of man people could count on, and he took pride in being useful, thoughtful, and present for the people he loved.
Scotty graduated from high school and went on to join the United States Army, serving his country with honor before being medically discharged in 1987. He continued to build a hardworking life and later worked with Comfort Systems before becoming disabled. He also attended Wallace Community College, where he earned certification in HVAC and electrical work, a reflection of both his determination and his skill. He was a true jack of all trades, and he carried that knowledge with quiet confidence throughout his life.
The love of Scotty’s life was his daughter, Bethanie Yeomans, and he cherished the role of father above all else. He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Lydia Yeomans, and his daughter, Bethanie Yeomans. He is also survived by his brother, Lynn Yeomans, and Lynn’s wife, Dominique, as well as his mother-in-law, Inez Tharpe, and extended family members who held a special place in his heart. Scotty was preceded in death by his parents, James and Joy Bryant Yeomans.
Scotty loved Alabama football and followed it with the enthusiasm of a true fan. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR racing, online poker, and playing Triple Yatzee. He loved trips to Aruba, camping, and spending time on a boat, especially on West Point Lake, where he found joy in the water and the peaceful moments it brought. He had a great sense of humor and was always eager to share a terrible dad joke, often bringing laughter to those around him. He loved to laugh himself, and his easygoing spirit made him a pleasure to be around. His family and friends will always remember the warmth of his smile, the steadiness of his presence, and the way he made ordinary moments feel special.
Scotty’s life was shaped by both joy and loss. He lost his mother in 1976 and his father in 2009, and through those years he continued forward with strength and grace. Even in difficult times, he remained devoted to caring for others and living in a way that reflected his values. He was a man who appreciated family, hard work, and the simple pleasures that made life meaningful. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
A celebration of Scotty’s life will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home. Serving as active pallbearers will be Jacob Hulvey, Ardis Pruitt, Matt Bryant, Adamm Scalia, Nick Kenyon, and Nathan Blackmon. Scotty will be remembered with love, gratitude, and deep respect by all who knew him.
