Iris Carolyn Bennett Philemonof, a resident of Dothan, passed away following a long illness on Saturday, October 1, 2022. She was 87 years young.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10 am on Saturday, October 8, 2022 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with her son-in-law, Jearld Vinson officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 9-10 am.
Carolyn was born on June 5, 1935 (a date that would change, depending on who was asking her!) in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Roy and Iris Hill Bennett. She lived there the early years of her life. She then traveled with her husband who was in the military and later moved to Anchorage, Alaska. Carolyn was a homemaker, but also managed rental properties during her stay in Texas and served as Magistrate in Alaska. She loved her family more than anything, but her grandchildren were the world to her. Carolyn had a heart of gold and a servant's heart, she volunteered with The Red Cross, Covenant Care, and most days you could find her at the Flowers Hospital Visitation Desk and Doctor's Center. Nothing delighted Carolyn more than sharing a Mexican dinner with her family and friends, and of course a good Margarita. Carolyn was a member of Wiregrass Church in Dothan.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Iris Hill Bennett, and by her two children, Deanna Leinen and Debra Fries.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her sons, Mike (Margaret) Long and Dino Philemonof; her daughters, Terri (Larry) Church, Annette (Jearld) Vinson, and Kathy Long; her nine grandchildren, Derrick Shaw, Dustin Shaw, Brandon Calabretto, Josh Long, Zack Long, Stephen Walker, Megan Wise, Lexi Weis, and Tori Deatherage; her sister, Janell Densmore; her brothers, Johnny Bennett and Gene Slader; and several nieces and nephews.
