Glenda Carol Dennis, born on December 10, 1951, in Haleburg, Alabama, passed away on May 2, 2026, in Dothan, Alabama, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family, friends, and the many animals she cared for throughout her life.
Glenda was a woman whose life was marked by compassion and quiet strength. She was known for her loving spirit, her gentle heart, and her deep affection for others. She especially loved animals, and cats held a special place in her heart. Her care for them was more than a pastime, as it reflected the tenderness and generosity that guided the way she lived each day. Those who knew her will remember her as someone who made others feel welcome, valued, and cared for.
Glenda attended Wallace Community College and later graduated from Auburn University with a degree in laboratory service. Her education reflected her determination and commitment to learning, and it was one of many examples of the diligence she brought to everything she did. She carried herself with grace and purpose, and she used her talents and abilities in ways that reflected her thoughtful nature and strong character.
Thirteen years ago, Glenda founded Kitty Kottage, an effort born from her love of kittens and her desire to help them find homes. Through this work, she helped countless kittens and connected with people from all over the United States who shared her love for animals. Kitty Kottage became a meaningful expression of who she was, and it stood as a testament to her dedication, her compassion, and her willingness to serve others, both human and animal alike.
Family was at the center of Glenda’s life, and she treasured every moment spent with those she loved. She is survived by her husband, David Dennis; her sons, Ben McSwean, Jim Dennis and his wife Terri, and John Dennis and his wife Donna; her daughter, Ann Peters and her husband Tonny; her grandchildren, Katie, Sarah, Mary, Grace, Taylor, David, and Emily; her three great-grandchildren; her brother, Bruce Hall and his wife Marie; and her sister, Susan Bannon and her husband Jim. She loved her family deeply and especially cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her great joy and pride.
Glenda also held dear the traditions and gatherings that brought her family together. She especially loved the times when cousins camped at Lake Eufaula with the whole family, and she orchestrated those gatherings for several years. These cherished occasions reflected her gift for bringing people together and creating memories that would be treasured for years to come. Her family will remember not only the events she helped create, but also the warmth, laughter, and togetherness she inspired.
A celebration of Glenda’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home with Brother Clayton Nowell officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to Kitty Kottage, 131 E Selma Street, Dothan, AL, in Glenda’s memory.
