Gerald "Dee King" Denorch Cochran, Jr., known affectionately as Dee King, was a beacon of light in this world. Born on September 16, 1993, in Dothan, Alabama, he was a vibrant soul who left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. He passed away on July 1, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and leadership.

He was preceded in death by his father, Terry Holston; paternal grandmother, Jessie Lee Carter; maternal great-grandparents, Versie and Joe Poke; maternal aunt, Seletha "Goodie" Small; great aunts, Rebecca Cochran and Dorothy Poke; and great uncle, Everett Poke

Dee King was a beloved son to his parents, Melissa (Otis) Lampkins, and was cherished by his maternal grandparents, Brenda and William Asbie. He was a devoted brother to his siblings Mealonie Poke, Alexander Cochran, Alexandria Cochran, Okyis Lampkins, Fabian Lampkins, Fallan Lampkins, and Omari Lampkins. His uncles, Kareem (Angela) Poke, Vernon Poke, Alfonza Poke, David Cochran, and Tyree Cochran, and his aunts, Keshia Poke, Rose (Henry) Thomas, and Jescellia Williams, held him in high regard.

His eternal wife, Ariana Cochran, was the love of his life, and their bond was unbreakable. Dee King was also a proud and loving father to his four boys, King Freeman, Karsen Olds, Caydence Tillman, and E'Mario Je'An Martin. He was also a godfather to Juelz Tykir Terry, a responsibility he cherished deeply; and a host of family and friends.

Dee King's educational journey began at the age of 16 at Wallace Community College and continued on at Alabama State University. A star student and athlete, his dedication to excellence was evident in his straight A's and prowess on the basketball court and football field at Honeysuckle Middle School.

In addition to his academic and athletic achievements, Dee King had a passion for music and enjoyed rap music. He was not just a performer; he was a storyteller, using his music to inspire and motivate others. He loved his family dearly, and his unwavering loyalty made him the protector of his loved ones. His charismatic personality made him the life of every party, and his ability to keep everyone together earned him the title of the family's glue.

His adventurous spirit and intelligence resonated with everyone he met. Children were naturally drawn to his spirited nature and warm heart. He was an old soul with a youthful zest for life, making him a true leader in his community. His outspoken nature and loyalty made him a cherished friend to many, including his special friends Fast Lane and Hardy Street.

A celebration of Dee King's life will be held at 1 pm on Friday, July 7, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Ward officiating. Dee King will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 12-1 pm.

Gerald "Dee King" Denorch Cochran, Jr.'s life was a testament of his fearless power of love, perseverance, and dedication. His life story serves as an inspiration to us all to live fully, love deeply, and lead by example. Rest in peace, Dee King.
