Fred F. Feagin

Fred Franklin Feagin, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Flowers Hospital. He was 79.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Father Patrick Gallagher and Rev. Michael Dawson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the services. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Highlands Elementary School Library Fund, 1400 S. Brannon Stand Road, Dothan, AL 36305.Mr. Feagin was born on June 6, 1930 in Savannah, GA, and spent the early years of his life in Mobile, AL. After graduating from high school at the age of sixteen, he joined the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Drum, New York. Following his military service he stayed in New York City for fourteen years where he studied opera, theater, and dance, and he was the office manager for Cadbury of London. Mr. Feagin left New York and moved back to Mobile, AL where he attended Spring Hill College and received a degree in English. He then attended Auburn University for graduate studies. In 1968 Mr. Feagin moved to Dothan and began teaching at Wallace College and later taught at Troy University Dothan in the English Department until his retirement in June 2006. Mr. Feagin was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church. Mr. Feagin was preceded in death by his wife, Jan Gober Feagin, a brother, Tignor Feagin, and his parents, Mattie Mae and Chester C. Feagin, Sr.Survivors include his daughters, Laura Dawson and her husband Michael of Harker Heights, TX, Della Feagin Stokes of Dothan; 5 grandchildren, Victoria Dawson, Andie Stokes, Keely Stokes, Abby Stokes, Brody Stokes; a brother Chester Feagin and his wife Donnie of Mobile, AL; several nieces and nephews also survive. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
