Edward Blackmon

June 14, 1939 — December 11, 2023

Dothan

Edward "Ed" Blackmon, a steadfast pillar of his community and a man of unwavering faith, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2023, in Dothan, Alabama. Born on June 14, 1939, in Houston County, Alabama, Ed's journey through life was marked by kindness, generosity, and a deep commitment to his family and faith.

Ed's life was one of dedication and hard work. He was the proud owner of Blackmon Concrete, a business that not only built structures but also a strong community around it. His work ethic was unparalleled, and his involvement with the United Pentecostal Church reflected his commitment to his faith and the values he held dear.

A true family man, Ed was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his son, Tommy Blackmon (Gennette), and daughter, Felicia B. Kincey (Jeffery), who will cherish his memory along with his six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. His brother, Billy J. Blackmon, along with a loving host of nieces and nephews, will fondly remember Ed's generous spirit and kind heart.

Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Mary Ann Blackmon, who was his partner in every sense and with whom he shared a life full of love and devotion. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Zack and Francis Blackmon, his brothers, Tom, Tellies (Luevina), and Ralph (Lucille) Blackmon, and his sisters, Elowese Hamilton, Elizabeth Blackmon, and Betty Blackmon.

Education played a significant role in Ed's early years, attending Smithville Church for school up until the 10th grade. The lessons learned during those formative years remained with him throughout his life, guiding his decisions and strengthening his character.

Ed's interests were simple yet profound. He found joy in fishing, tending to his vegetable garden, and spending time with his family. A man of great habits, he never cared for leftovers, always preferring the fresh meals lovingly prepared by his wife. His entire life was spent in the Wiregrass area, where he was a well-known and respected figure.

His friends and family will remember Ed as a faith-filled individual, whose stubbornness was always directed towards achieving the best for those he loved. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a word of encouragement.

In accordance with his unwavering faith and the life he lived, Ed's final days were spent surrounded by the love and prayers of his family, a fitting end to a life so fully devoted to others. He will be deeply missed, but the impact of his presence will continue to be felt by all who were fortunate enough to have been a part of his journey.

A celebration of life will be held at 2pm Saturday, December 16, 2023, in the Sunset Chapel. The family will be receiving friends an hour prior to the service. Ed will be laid to rest next to his wife, Mary Ann, in the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
