Donald Fraser Hand was born on December 21, 1932, to Johnnie and Annie Hand in Panama City Florida. He was a proud graduate of The University of Florida with a Bachelors and Masters in Rehabilitation. He graduated to his eternal degree this past Thursday, May 28, 2026.
Mr. Hand served his country for 4 years in the United States Navy. He was a Mason and a Civitan, serving in leadership roles. He was named Realtor of the year in Tuscaloosa, AL several times and had numerous awards from the Civitan Club and Masons. He was a member of Grimes Methodist Church.
Don had a varied career in his 93 years. He was a rehabilitation counselor at West Alabama Rehab before becoming the director. He left West Alabama Rehab to build a successful real estate agency in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Don is survived by his bride of 43 years, Mary Carr Hand, his daughter Renee Hand Potter, his step-daughter Anna Kate Owens and 2 grandchildren, Lauren Walsh and Grace Owens. He was preceded in death by his son Kevin, sisters, Willie Ann Miller and Mary Hand Price, and brother Laurice Hand.
The family wishes to express appreciation to an army of wonderful caregivers, Kenny Beaty and his family and to Grimes Methodist Church. The family also suggests that memorials be directed to Grimes Methodist Church, 404 Parramore Road, Dothan, AL 36303.
The graveside service will be held Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 11:00 AM, at Sunset Memorial Park, 1700 Barrington Road, Dothan, AL.
