Denise Maxwell age 66 of Dothan passed away peacefully at home among loving family members on March 10, 2023.
Denise was born April 11, 1956 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Daughter of Joe Clifford Maxwell and Doris E. (Maxine) Berry Maxwell.
When Denise was 5 years old, along with her older sister, Cynthia (Cindy) the family moved to Dothan, Alabama. Later a brother, Joe Clifford, Jr. was added to the family. She had a daughter, Amber Lynn. Denise attended Selma Street Elementary School, Houston Academy, Wallace Community College and Brigham Young University. Her major was Music, specializing in piano and voice pedagogy. At an early age it was recognized that she was musically gifted since she often sang aloud walking home from school. This was when she began taking piano lessons. At the age of 16 she began teaching private piano lessons. Her musical abilities included performing in musical productions, weddings, funerals and graduations. At her church she directed the choir, soloed and was a pianist and organist. Over a period of 50 years, she taught numerous students of all ages, including a number of those student's own children.
Denise is survived by her daughter, Amber (Carl Dufault); her mother, Maxine; her sister, Cynthia (Richard Welles); her brother, Joe, Jr. (Jennifer); and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 4:30 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints located at 3199 Ross Clark Circle, Dothan, Alabama.
