David O'Neil Phelps

David O’Neil Phelps, Jr., age 52, formerly of Dothan, Alabama, passed away at Fidelity Health Care in El Monte, California, on August 21, 2026, following a long illness.

David was born on March 12, 1974, in Durham, North Carolina, to David O’Neil Phelps, Sr., and Phyllis Claiborne Phelps. He moved to Dothan at an early age, where he grew up and was a member of First United Methodist Church. David graduated from Northview High School with the Class of 1992.

After high school, David attended The University of Alabama and Troy State University. He later moved to Los Angeles, California, where he made his home.

David is survived by his mother, Phyllis Claiborne Phelps of Dothan, Alabama, and his many loving cousins, Norma Hamilton Lee (Gary) of Knoxville, Tennessee, Shirley Blair of Sevierville, Tennessee, Judy Snyder Hamilton of New Market, Tennessee, Mark Hamilton (Catherine) of Orlando, Florida, and Audrea Hamilton Delerson (Neil), Plano, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, David O’Neil Phelps, Sr., his grandparents, Neil T.,Sr. and Sue Burke Phelps, and Mac and Janie Claiborne and cousins John F. Hamilton and Milford Blair.

He will be remembered by his family and those who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.

David will be interred at Sunset Memorial Park in Dothan, AL.
