David Eugene Gordon

November 17, 1933 — August 3, 2022

Dothan

With his son at his side, David Eugene Gordon, 88, Dothan, Alabama, left this earth and peacefully entered the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for all of eternity, just before dawn on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. He loved his family beyond words, considered himself a blessed man of God, and was a loyal and dutiful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who rarely met a stranger. Mr. Gordon was born on November 17, 1933, and as Dave would often say, he was born in "Main", the main part of Tamola, Mississippi, in a little log cabin that he built with his own hands; anyone that ever knew him would know what a quick wit he had, as well as an endless collection of jokes and puns. The hearts of all that knew and loved David are weeping for a time but trust in the promise in Romans 10:13 " for whosoever shall call upon the name of the lord shall be saved" and will spend eternity with David in all God's Glory and Splendor, never to be separated again.
After high school, David served a three year term in the Mississippi Army National Guard, while also attending junior college in Meridian. He then began a lifelong career in the insurance claims adjusting business, retiring from Auto Owners Insurance Company after 26 years in this successful profession in 1995. Dave found his job enjoyable and awarded him too many friends and acquaintances to even imagine. In 1954 he married Patricia Hardin Gordon. After leaving Meridian, he moved his young wife, Pat, to Pensacola, FL, where they started a family. From there the family lived in Mobile, AL and again in Pensacola before moving to Dothan, AL in 1969, where he resided the remainder of his life, after living in Cottonwood for several years with his wife Pat, after their retirement and until her death in 2002. Mr. Gordon was an active member, faithfully serving his Lord on numerous committees for decades at Sylvan Grove United Methodist, Hodgesville Baptist, and then Pathway Baptist Church, where he was a current member at the time of his death.
Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Patricia Gordon, his parents, James and Mary Ruth Hopper Gordon, three brothers - Jack, Robert Neil, and Lester, and one sister, Martha Gordon Gray.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory and to carry on his legacy his four loving children - Cynthia Kaye Gordon Clark, Mary Virginia Gordon Mansfield, and David Lane Gordon (Sherri), all of Dothan, Alabama and Susan Diane Gordon Morgan (Spencer) of Vidalia, Georgia. Grandchildren Kara Clark DeLoney, Chase Clark, Brandon Ray (Sadie), Kaitlyn Morgan Macker (Andrew), Caroline Gordon Moore (Devin), Chancellor Gordon, Price Gordon (Taylor), Wise Gordon, and Dozier Gordon. Great-grandchildren-Logan, Peyton, Ean, Noah, Emery, Emma, Jack, Lottie, Edie, and Shep. A sister, Marguerite Gordon Govoni. Numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be his grandsons - Chancellor, Price, Wise, Logan, Dozier and Peyton.
