Daisy Nell Flatt, aged 90, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, in Dothan, Alabama, surrounded by the love of her family and the compassionate staff of Gentiva Hospice and Extendicare. Born in Rehobeth, Alabama, on November 10, 1935, to Charlie and Carmel Battles, Nell's life was marked by her steadfast devotion to her loved ones, her unwavering faith, and her zest for life.
A true matriarch, Nell was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, Pierce Flatt, her son Steve Flatt, her grandson Zane Flatt, her parents, and her brother Johns Battles. Her legacy continues through her loving children, Robert Flatt (Jana) and Lisa Bone (Tommy); her cherished grandchildren, Jeremy Flatt (Veronica), Stephanie (Robbie) Bates, Amber (Lance) Tucker, Troy (Alesha) Flatt, Zana Arnold, Connor Flatt (Stephanie), Carrie-Grace Knight (Hunter), Logan Cantrell (Ryan), Zach Bone (Logan), and Alex Wagner (Shelby); and her 28 great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her heart.
Nell's life was a tapestry of love and service, woven with her exceptional skills as a seamstress. Her quilts were not just blankets; they were stories of her love, stitched together for her family to cherish. She poured her creative spirit into making costumes for plays and homemade clothes, ensuring that every thread sewn was a testament to her care. Nell's home, always immaculate, was an open haven where she entertained and served people with grace and a warm smile.
Her spunky side was as much a part of her as her gentle nature. Nell met Pierce while he was serving in the Army, and their love story was one for the ages. After moving to Texas in 1957, they later returned to Dothan in 1971, where they continued their adventures—traveling the world together and creating memories that would last a lifetime. She eventually moved to Montgomery for a time before coming back home to Dothan.
A woman of deep faith, Nell was a member of Westgate Church of Christ in Dothan from 1971 to 2007. She later attended the University Church of Christ in Montgomery before eventually returning to Dothan. Her love for reading, especially her Bible, was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her in her daily walk and in her role as a supportive mother and incredible mother-in-law.
Nell's presence in her children's lives was unwavering; she was always there to lend a hand, make holidays special, and share her wisdom. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew her as a kind, funny, and strong woman who could always be counted on for a loving hug, a delicious meal, and encouragement.
Her caretaker, Margie Barnes, became a cherished part of Nell's extended family, caring for her with kindness and dedication.
Nell Flatt's life was a beautiful reflection of her love for her family, her passion for life, and her commitment to her faith. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched, and her legacy will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
A private family service will be held.
