Cowan "Paul" Watson

August 29, 1942 — February 27, 2026

Cowan Paul Watson, affectionately known as Paul to his friends and family, left this world on February 27, 2026 in Dothan, Alabama. Born August 29, 1942 in Troy, Alabama, Paul's life was defined by his intelligence, generosity, and selflessness. A devoted husband, loving father, and doting grandfather, Paul's kindness and wisdom touched the lives of all who knew him.


A 1964 (BS) and 1987(MS) graduate of Auburn University, Paul embarked on a successful career as both an electrical engineer, entrepreneur and consultant, having owned an electrical contracting business before serving as lead signal engineer with Alabama DOT. With an amazing work ethic, he also demonstrated a remarkable aptitude for innovation and problem solving which was highly regarded in his industry.


Paul's life was deep rooted in his strong and abiding faith, which was an inspiration to all who knew him. As a member of 1st Presbyterian Church, and a regular attendee at Evergreen Presbyterian Church, Paul's relationship with the Lord was a cornerstone of his existence, one that he nurtured and shared with his loved ones.


Paul sought adventure throughout his life, and he was keen to share his deep love of travel and the outdoors with family and friends. Cherished memories of raising horses, hiking trails in Wyoming, and exploring new places both home and abroad will always comfort those with whom he shared such wonderful adventures.


Paul was preceded in death by: his parents, Comer Pruitt Watson and Johnnie Mae Paul Watson; his beloved wife of 52 years, Brenda Dunn Watson; sister. Sue Watson Dykes, and brother-in-law. Wayne Morgan Dykes.


He is survived by: his cherished wife of 10 years, Joyce Williams; his children, Melissa Leigh Watson, Jeffrey Paul (Amy) Watson, and Andrew "Drew" (Stacy) Watson ; his step daughter, Tanya (Joe) Beckman; grandchildren Anna Grace (Jacob) Evans, William Walker Watson, William Paul Watson, and Sailor Elizabeth Watson; step grandchildren, George Beckman, Carly Beckman, and Kristen Beckman; brother-in-law Gary William Dunn; nephews Wayne Morgan Dykes, Jr. and John Pruitt Dykes.


A celebration of life to pay tribute to a life well lived and a man well loved will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at Evergreen Presbyterian Church at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Paul with a contribution to a charity of your choice.
