Clyde Michael Dunn

November 20, 1946 — July 1, 2024

Clyde Michael Dunn, a cherished patriarch and respected veteran, completed his earthly journey on July 1, 2024, at the age of 77 in Dothan, Alabama. Born in Tyler, Texas, on November 20, 1946, to the late Robie and Lillie Dunn, Mike carried the spirit of his hometown throughout his life, spreading warmth and kindness wherever he went.

Mike's commitment to his country was unwavering, enlisting in the Navy in February 1964 and dedicating 30 years of service. His naval career was marked by distinction and honor, serving aboard various ships and stations, including the USS Haynesworth and the USS America. As a Photographic Warrant Officer, he was instrumental in the Navy's transition from film to television production, earning numerous commendations for his expertise and dedication.

After his retirement from the Navy in 1994, Mike continued to serve others through his involvement with the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, providing counseling to those affected by tragedies. His passion for helping others was only matched by his love for photography, a craft he honed for over six decades.

Mike was also a man of faith, actively participating in the Ridgecrest Baptist Church community. His intelligence and courage were evident in every aspect of his life, from his military accomplishments to his academic pursuits, which included attending Seminary School at Southeastern Baptist Theological School and obtaining a Masters of Arts in Counseling.

His personal life was filled with joy and adventure, especially during his 35-year marriage to his late wife, Theresa, with whom he shared a love for travel and fishing trips to Alaska. Mike was a loving and proud father to Chad Dunn, Terri Lavallee, Denise Wood, Melissa Petty, and Missie Wiedman, and he delighted in the company of his 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was also a supportive brother to Loretta Moore. Mike now joins his loving wife, Theresa, and two sons, who preceded him in death, Dennis Michael Dunn and James Randall Dunn.

Mike will be remembered for his determination, opinionated nature, and passionate heart. His legacy will continue to live on through his loving family and the many lives he touched with his generous spirit.

Funeral services to honor the remarkable life of Mike Dunn will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Hipwell officiating. Visitation for family and friends will commence one hour prior to the service. Mike will be laid to rest at a later date in the hallowed grounds of Arlington National Cemetery, where his valor and service to the nation will be commemorated.

Mike's journey on earth was marked by love, a fierce sense of duty, and an indomitable spirit that inspired all who knew him. His legacy as a loving father, intelligent mentor, and courageous serviceman will endure in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
