Carolyn Louise Ball

Aug 26, 1942 — Oct 23, 2026

Carolyn Louise Ball, known to her family as Nene, passed away on October 23, 2026, in Ozark, Alabama, at the age of 84.

Carolyn was born on August 26, 1942, in Baltimore, Maryland. She and her husband, Charles L.D. Ball, shared 64 years together. His military service took them all over the country and beyond, with homes in Japan, Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Washington, D.C., among many others. Out of all the places she lived, home was with her family in Ozark, Alabama.

After earning her associate degree, Carolyn worked as secretary to the Department of Combat Developments for more than 30 years. She retired in 2006 to spend time with her grandchildren, Alex and Eli.

Carolyn loved nothing more than tending to her garden and spending time outside. Saying she had a green thumb was an understatement. She was a longtime member and past president of the Master Gardeners Organization, and she completed the Alabama Master Naturalist Course in 2018. Over the years, she received several awards for her naturalist and horticultural work. Every year, she volunteered at Landmark Park in Dothan, Alabama, doing arts and crafts with children and teaching them about horticulture. She was also active in her church and community.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Henrietta Jean Tedder; her father, David Henry Sellers; her sisters, Gloria and Burma; her brothers, David and Glenn; her great-grandson, Kai; and her beloved husband, Charles, who passed away less than two months before her.

She is survived by her daughter, Sonya Jean Ball; her two grandchildren, Alexandra Victoria Sallas and Elijah Charles Sallas; and her brother, Terry.

Though her family will miss her kind nature, her spunk, and her humor, she is finally reunited with her soulmate of 64 years.

A joint service for Carolyn and her beloved late husband, “Paul,” as she called him, will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 1700 Barrington Road, Dothan, Alabama 36350.
