Carl Joseph Johnson, Sr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025, in Dothan, Alabama. Born on July 17, 1943, in New York, Carl's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, his brilliant mind, and his creative spirit.
Carl, affectionately known by his loved ones as simply "Carl," was the beloved husband of Camille Ann Johnson. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and enduring memories. He was a guiding force in the lives of his children, Carl Joseph (Stephanie) Johnson, Jr., Yvette Johnson (Ricky Griswold), and Robert (Catherine) Johnson. His wisdom and kindness were a beacon for his grandchildren, Jennifer (James) Hurley, Zachary Johnson, Faith Griswold, and Madison (Dylan) Knightingale, and his great-grandchild, Arcelle Knightingale.
Carl's parents, Howard E. Johnson and Anna Lewandowski, and his brother, Howard Johnson, Jr., preceded him in death. Their legacy of strength and integrity lived on in Carl, who carried their values forward in every aspect of his life.
A proud graduate of Horsehead High School, Carl's academic journey led him to Kettering University, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. His educational background laid the foundation for a remarkable career that began at A.C. Delco and continued at TRW in Dothan, which later became Globe Motors. Carl's expertise and passion for his work were further recognized at Teledyne in Mobile, where he concluded his professional career before retiring.
Even in retirement, Carl's zeal for helping others shone through as he joined the team at Toyota of Dothan in Customer Relations. His analytical mind, intelligence, and creative approach to problem-solving were appreciated by colleagues and customers alike.
Carl's interests extended beyond the professional realm. He was an avid fisherman, finding solace in both fresh and saltwater fishing. His love for the outdoors was matched by his green thumb, as he spent countless hours tending to his garden, nurturing plants with the same care he gave to his relationships.
A man of deep faith, Carl will be honored with a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 pm on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at St. Columba Catholic Church Chapel. The service, officiated by Father Jim Dane, will celebrate a life lived with purpose, love, and a touch of that creative flair that was uniquely Carl's.
Carl Joseph Johnson, Sr. leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and a commitment to the betterment of his family and community. His analytical and intelligent nature, combined with his creative soul, touched the lives of many. As we bid farewell to a remarkable man, we take comfort in the knowledge that his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us for generations to come.
