He will be remembered as a faith-filled, kind, and gentle man whose calm spirit touched everyone who knew him.
Carl lived in Detroit for most of his life, where he built a strong foundation through service, work, and community. He served in the Army for four years, answering the call to serve his country with honor and discipline. After his military service, he went on to work for the city of Detroit, where he later retired after many years of dedicated employment. He was known as a dependable worker who took pride in doing things the right way and who carried himself with quiet strength.
In his personal life, Carl was a laid back and easygoing man who found joy in simple but meaningful things. He enjoyed yard work and gardening, and he took pride in caring for the spaces around him. He loved football and sports, and he appreciated the excitement and camaraderie they brought. Above all, he cherished being around his daughter and grandchildren, and he was deeply proud of the way his daughter raised her boys. His love for his family was steady and sincere, and his presence brought comfort and warmth to those closest to him.
Carl was also a gentle soul who loved God and lived with a spirit of kindness that was evident in his everyday life. He was a proud member of St. Paul AME Church in Detroit, Michigan, where he joined in 2016 and served faithfully on the usher board. He liked dogs and found companionship and joy in their loyal nature. Those who knew him will remember his soft-spoken manner, his steady heart, and the way he made others feel at ease. He was a hardworking man who carried himself with grace, and his life was a reflection of quiet faith and enduring love.
He is survived by his daughter, Ravetta Lane; mother, Joyce Floyd; his grandchildren, Jaylen Lane and Jatavious Grooms; his sisters, Donna Parker and her husband, Larry, Saundra Byrd, and Janice Winfrey; his brother, Kevin Floyd; and his aunt, Sarah Garrison. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory and the many ways he blessed their lives.
Carl was preceded in death by his father, John Floyd, as well as his brothers-in-law, Al Byrd and Tyrone Winfrey. Their memory remained an important part of his family story, and he carried the love of his family with him throughout his life.
Though he has departed this earthly life, Carl Floyd’s legacy of faith, kindness, and gentleness will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him. His family and friends will remember him not only for the roles he held, but for the character he displayed each day. He leaves behind a lasting example of what it means to be strong, faithful, and loving, and his memory will be treasured always.
