Bobby Lee Joyner

Bobby Lee Joyner, 80, of Dothan, Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, fighting a courageous battle with cancer.

Graveside service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10-11am in Sunset Funeral Home chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ridgecrest Baptist Church of Dothan or the American Cancer Society.

Bobby was born on November 30, 1940, in Green County, North Carolina, and remained there until he completed his BS in chemistry at Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, North Carolina. He was then employed by Nuclear Research Chemical in Orlando, Florida, where he met and married Sandy in 1967. They moved to Atlanta where he attended Georgia Tech and graduated with a master's degree in Organic Chemistry. He accepted a position with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and remained with the USDA for 38 years, retiring in 2008 as Director of the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service, Science and Technology Field Laboratory Services. Bobby was well respected in the field of aflatoxins. Bobby was a long-time member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Dixon "Buddy" Joyner and a sister-in-law, Nell W. Joyner, both of Farmville, North Carolina.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandra "Sandy" Brown Joyner; sons and their wives, Billy (Becky) Joyner and Mark (Mandy) Joyner, all of Dothan; his grandchildren, Matthew, Will, Hunter, Eathan, Cole, Bailey, Chloe, and Luke; his great grandchildren, Izabella, Maddox, Emma, and Jax, all of Dothan; his brother, Jesse Gene Joyner; his nephew and his wife, Alton (Laurie) Joyner; and his niece, Jean Joyner Suggs, all of Farmville North Carolina.
