Bobby Gene Barber, a resident of Slocomb passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2009 at his residence. He was 69.
Funeral services with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Walter White, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Barber was born July 26, 1939 to Charlie F. Barber and Ruby Nell Hudgens in Dothan, AL. The eldest of five children, he joined the U. S. Air Force in 1957, dedicating years of service and later ending his military career through retirement. In addition to military service he worked several years for General Motors – Cadillac Division as a line supervisor. He was well known by family and friends for his outgoing personality, jovial sense of humor, and gift of gab. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Mildred Henry and Sarah Sally Barber.
Mr. Barber leaves behind to mourn his death his wife of 33 years Felecia Barber; children, Bobbette Sweazey, Kimeka Barber, Robert Barber, Angelia Barber, Cassandra Grace and her husband Willie, Lynette Barber, Ethelda Clark, Barbara Barber, Tammi Barber; a step-daughter Mildred McClendon; sisters, Margaret White and her husband Jimmie of Anderson, IN, Gloria Ashley of Indianapolis, IN; a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends.
