Sgt. 1st Class Bobbie Lee Smith, USA, Ret., born November 25, 1956, in Andalusia, Alabama, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2023, in Dothan, Alabama. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he was known for his kindness, selflessness, and dedication to his family and country.

Bobbie was the son of Celia Johnson Smith and the late Elijah Smith. He was the devoted husband of Rosa Vickers Smith, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage. He was a proud and loving father to his son, Retired Master Seargent, Marlow Smith (Angela), and daughters, Tamalin Smith (James Porter) and Trimese Smith. His joy for life was further amplified by his cherished grandchildren, Byron Johnson, Marleau Smith, Kailynn Mills, and Milani Smith.

Bobbie was the caring brother to Louie Ray Smith (Barbara Ann Smith), Nettie Miller (Edward Miller), Annie Jean Shiver (Willie Shiver), Lillian Rivers, Lessie Glanton, and Larry Smith (Rose). He held a special bond with his niece, Tracy Harris, and nephew, Mark Rivers. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members also survive him and will miss him dearly.

Bobbie's education journey began in Dothan, Alabama and continued through his military career, where he furthered his studies at college. He served honorably in the US Army for 28 years, and retired Seargent 1st Class, earning a Bronze Star and distinguishing himself in the operations of the Enduring and Iraqi Freedom Wars. His service left him a proud but disabled veteran, a testament to his selfless dedication to his country.

After his military service, Bobbie continued to showcase his strong work ethic in the civilian sector, working for Couch Construction and APEC Construction. He was known as a hard worker, always ready to lend a hand where needed. Despite his demanding work schedule, Bobbie never missed an opportunity to spend time with his family and friends. He enjoyed nature and being visited by friends and sharing stories of his life experiences.

As a husband and father, Bobbie was beyond compare. His love for his wife, Rosa, was visible to all who knew them. He was a pillar of strength and guidance for his children, always encouraging them to follow their dreams. He was a doting grandfather who delighted in his grandchildren's achievements, big or small.

Bobbie's life was a testament to the quote by Maya Angelou, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." He had a natural ability to make people feel loved, valued, and important. His kindness was infectious, and his selfless nature was a trait that endeared him to many.

In remembering Bobbie, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him. We take comfort in knowing that his spirit lives on in the hearts of his loved ones and that his memory will continue to be a beacon of love, kindness, and selflessness.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, December 1, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home with Military Honors to follow in the Sunset Helicopter Pavilion. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the services.
