Betty Elizabeth Davis

December 20, 1962 — January 3, 2026

Betty Barefield Davis, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, was born on December 20, 1962, and passed away on January 3, 2026, in Dothan, Alabama.

Betty dedicated over 20 years of her life to her work at Dunbarton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie James Barefield and Realy Mae McKee, her siblings, Billy Joe Barefield, Mabel Hutto, Sarah Helen Brannon, Jimmy Ray Barefield, and Buela Mae Davis; her brother-in-law, Tom Davis; and her niece, Wendy Davis.

She is survived by Tony Davis; her four daughters, Amelia Smith (Brent), Tonie Davis (Ronnie), Becky Williams (Jamie), and Marjorie Obert (Austin); and her siblings, Hilton Barefield (Brenda) and Pam Roberts (Stan).

Betty leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love through her ten grandchildren, Jordan, Talia, JJ, Raylena, Elena, Katelynn, David, Bailee, Chelsea and Cade, and Twelve great-grandchildren. She was lovingly known as “Mama” to her girls, “Nana” to her grandchildren, and “MawMaw” to her great-grandchildren.

Betty once said her greatest accomplishment in life was her four daughters, and she lived every day proving that to be true. In her final days, she spent precious time with them doing things she had never done before—flying on a plane, riding a train, driving through the mountains, spending the night in a cabin in the Tennessee mountains, going to a casino, bonfires, dancing, singing, and laughing.

Though gentle in spirit, Betty carried a fierce fire within her. She would give anyone her last dime if they were in need, yet she fought with everything she had for more time with her girls and her beloved furbabies. Gone far too soon, she was a blessing to all who knew her.

We love you Mama forever and always.
