Betty Adkins Bredemus

Betty Adkins Bredemus, age 91, of Dothan, Alabama, passed away on August 6, 2026. She was born on December 21, 1934, in Newton, Alabama, and lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her work, her church, and the many quiet acts of kindness that reflected her generous spirit.

Betty built a long and respected career in the dental field. She received her dental hygiene license in June of 1955 and went on to work as an oral surgeon assistant, serving patients with professionalism, skill, and care. Her work in the industry spanned more than 40 years, and she retired after many faithful years working under Dr. Borland of Dothan, Alabama. She was known for her steady hands, dependable nature, and the calm presence she brought to her work each day. Her dedication to her profession was evident in the trust she earned and the many lives she touched throughout her career.

Family was the center of Betty’s life, and she cherished every moment spent with those she loved. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Virgil Adkins, Jr. and George Bredemus. She was also preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert “Bobby” Adkins and Vicki, as well as her daughter, Laura Mulkey. Betty carried the memory of her loved ones in her heart throughout her life, and her family was a source of great joy and strength to her. She is survived by her granddaughters, Jennifer Apida and her husband Brandon, Kim Cunningham and her husband Shaun. She also leaves behind her beloved great-granddaughters, Hadley Apida, Kylie Apida, Briley Cunningham, Paylin Cunningham, and Maddox Cunningham, who brought her much happiness and pride.

Betty had a gentle and caring nature that extended beyond her family and her work. She enjoyed sewing and found comfort and satisfaction in creating with her hands. She was also a devoted cat lover, and her cherished companion, Sugarman, held a special place in her heart. Her home and her life were filled with the simple pleasures that meant the most to her, and she found joy in the routines and relationships that made each day meaningful.

A member of Saint Columba Catholic Church, Betty lived her beliefs through service and participation in her church community. She also volunteered there, giving her time and energy in support of others. Her faith was an important part of her life, and it guided her with quiet strength and grace. Those who knew her will remember her as a woman of kindness, humility, and steadfast devotion.

Betty Adkins Bredemus will be remembered for her enduring love of family, her long and honorable career, her faith, and the warmth she shared with those around her. Her life was a testament to hard work, compassion, and loyalty, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 9, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home from 2:00pm-3:30pm. A private graveside will be held in Sunset Memorial Park.
