Bernadette Gertrude Berry

Bernadette Gertrude Berry, age 92, of Dothan, Alabama, passed away on July 27, 2026 with her daughter, Theresa Berry. She was born on September 27, 1933, in New Ulm, Minnesota, and lived a long, full life marked by devotion to her family, strong faith, hard work, and a generous spirit that touched many lives.

Bernadette moved to Dothan in 1967 from Jacksonville, Florida, and quickly made it her home. She carried with her the values of perseverance, kindness, and responsibility, and she shared those qualities with everyone around her. She was known as a loving mother who could be trusted with anything, and her family and friends often turned to her for steady guidance and good advice. Her presence brought comfort, her words brought wisdom, and her example left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

For more than 20 years, Bernadette was employed at J.C. Penney as a bookkeeper, where she was respected for her honesty, accuracy, and dedication. She kept the books down to the last penny, and her careful work reflected the pride she took in doing every task well. Her career was a testament to her strong work ethic and her commitment to excellence. She was also a faithful member of St. Columba Catholic Church, where her devotion to her faith remained an important part of her life. In addition, she enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society, where she shared fellowship, friendship, and laughter with others.

Bernadette had many talents and interests that brought joy to her family and those around her. She loved to sew and was especially gifted at making tailor-made clothes for her family. She also taught children how to sew, passing along both a practical skill and the satisfaction of creating something by hand. Her creativity extended into cooking, gardening, and arts and crafts, and she could make nearly anything she put her mind to. Her home and her life were filled with the warmth of her talents, and she used those gifts not only to care for others but also to encourage and inspire them.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Berry. She is survived by her sons, James Berry Sr. (Sharon), and David Berry; her daughter, Patricia Redman; her grandchildren, Shaun Redman, Christina Berry, Brandon Berry, Scarlet Hernandez, James Berry, Jr., Robert Berry, Ashley Miller, Griffin Berry, and Dustin Calloway; and her great-grandchildren, Alexis Redman, Brayden Joyce, Camden Redman, Logan Redman, Payten Berry, Maddison Berry, Aiden Berry, Samuel Berry, William Berry, Evelyn Berry, Cheyenne Hernandez, Jewel Hernandez, Cody Calloway, Zachariah Calloway, Zaine Calloway, Aaliyah Mitchell, and Jaiden Mitchell. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Ray Rewitzer, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Bernadette will be remembered for her loving heart, her steady faith, and the many ways she cared for others throughout her life. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she found joy in the success and happiness of her family. Her advice was thoughtful, her hands were skilled, and her spirit was generous. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.

Her life was a beautiful example of faithfulness, service, and quiet grace. Though she will be deeply missed, the memory of Bernadette Gertrude Berry will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to share in her life.
